Nottingham Forest willing to double Manchester City man's wages and promise starting role to pull off audacious transfer ahead of busy European campaign

Nottingham Forest are reportedly going all in for Manchester City’s versatile young star Rico Lewis. Determined to pull off one of the summer’s most audacious moves, Forest have promised the 20-year-old both a guaranteed starting role and a salary package that would double his current wages, as revealed by talkSPORT. Lewis himself is open to the switch, with Forest pushing to seal an agreement with City before their European campaign kicks into gear.

Initial talks between the clubs have already taken place, but Forest’s first formal proposal, reported at €25 million plus €5m in add-ons (around £25m/$34m total), was swiftly dismissed by the Premier League champions. Pep Guardiola’s side are said to value their academy graduate closer to €40m (£34m/$46m) and will not allow him to leave unless that figure is met, as reported by

Having featured in 48 matches last season, starting 37 across multiple competitions, Lewis has grown into a dependable option whether at right-back, left-back or shielding the defence in midfield. In the process, he also scored two goals and notched up five assists last term.

The move for Lewis is part of a wider transfer blitz at the City Ground. Already through the door are Dan Ndoye from Bologna, Brazilian duo Igor Jesus and Jair Cunha from Botafogo, and experienced goalkeeper Angus Gunn on a free. Deals are also in motion for Manchester City midfielder James McAtee in a £30m ($40.5m) package and a club-record £37.5m ($51m) swoop for Ipswich Town star Omari Hutchinson. They are additionally negotiating with Rennes striker Arnaud Kalimuendo, while winger Callum Hudson-Odoi is on the verge of penning a new contract.

Matching City’s €40m asking price would make him one of Forest’s most expensive signings in history, placing immediate pressure on Lewis. Nonetheless, the offer to double Lewis’ wages and tie him down to a central role speaks volumes about Nuno Espirito Santo's intent.

"Matches in Round 18 (December 27) are available for movement to Boxing Day for live broadcast selection. Each club has a home match on either 27 December or 3 January, with travel reduced on 27 December and 30 December."

Send him to Saudi: Arteta must sell Arsenal star who’s a "bit of a moaner"

While the last four or five years have seen Arsenal continuously improve under Mikel Arteta, this season has been a rude awakening.

While the Gunners finished in a close second place for the last two campaigns, they are already 13 points off Premier League leaders, Liverpool.

Injuries have undoubtedly played a significant part in the North Londoners’ poor form, but at the same time, the squad clearly isn’t good enough.

This summer represents a massive opportunity for the board to make the necessary investments to push the team over the line next season, but arguably just as important is shipping off those who aren’t up to scratch, including a regular starter who’s already been linked with a move to the Middle East.

The Arsenal players who need to be sold

Starting with an easy one here, as for a while there, it looked as if Oleksandr Zinchenko would be sold in the winter transfer window.

Borussia Dortmund were supposedly targeting the Ukrainian international, and while his quality on the ball and the impact he had on the team alongside Gabriel Jesus in the 22/23 season cannot be forgotten, it’s clear that he’s now surplus to requirements.

For example, he’s made just 15 appearances this season, with only four of those being starts, and with the emergence of Myles Lewis-Skelly, his importance is only going to further diminish, and as he’s on a whopping £150-per-week, it also makes financial sense to move him on.

Likewise, Polish international Jakub Kiwior has seen his already minor importance to the team fade even more this term, as his only appearances have come when Gabriel Magalhães and William Saliba have been injured, ill or suspended.

Moreover, with Ben White now back to full fitness, Jurrien Timber continuing to impress, and Riccardo Calafiori in the squad, there are far more players who can do his job of filling in at centre-back and full-back, so it would make sense for his career and the club’s coffers if he was sold in the summer.

However, it’s not just in defence that players need to be moved on, as it might be time for one of the club’s main attacking outlets to leave in a few months.

Why it's time for Arsenal's £90k-per-week star to go

With Bukayo Saka being the world-class talent he is, Kai Havertz hitting 20 goal involvements this year, Gabriel Martinelli still possessing plenty of upside, and Jesus being out with a long-term injury, it should come as no surprise that Leandro Trossard is the forward Arsenal should sell in the summer.

Now, the first thing to say is that when the Belgian is at his incredible best, he can be near enough unplayable for opposition defenders, but therein lies the problem: he’s not been anywhere near his best this year.

For example, in his first six months with the club, the former Brighton & Hove Albion star racked up a brilliant haul of one goal and ten assists in 22 games, and then last year managed to rack up a tally of 17 goals and two assists in 46 appearances.

However, instead of going one better this season, or even just maintaining his level of output, the Waterschei-born winger, who Arteta described as “a little bit of a moaner,” has regressed.

In his 39 appearances across all competitions this year, the usually reliable attacker has only been able to muster up five goals and seven assists, which comes out to a goal involvement every 3.25 games, compared to one every 2.42 games last season and every other game in his first half-campaign.

In short, the 41-capped international is not as dangerous as he once was, and considering he’ll be 31 at the end of this year and his £90k-per-week contract expires next summer, the club must cash in on him in the next transfer window.

The good news is that there does seem to be interest in him from the uber-wealthy Saudi Pro League, as reports from September revealed that the North Londoners turned down an offer from Al-Ittihad.

Ultimately, Trossard has been a useful player for Arsenal, but this season has seen his effectiveness dwindle, and unless Arteta and Co want him to leave for nothing next year or continue to underwhelm next season, they should be looking to sell him as soon as possible.

Wolves have finally found their new Raul Jimenez and it’s not Cunha

Wolverhampton Wanderers crashed out of the FA Cup on penalties at the weekend to Bournemouth in what was yet another poor result for the Old Gold.

It was capped off by star man Matheus Cunha receiving his marching orders in the final minute of extra time, which means he will miss several matches over the next few weeks.

How the club could use a player like Raul Jimenez to lead the line in his absence, with the Brazilian having initially thought to have been the ideal heir for the Mexican striker upon his departure.

Molineux's cult hero: The numbers behind Raul Jimenez's Wolves career

The striker joined Wolves in 2018 ahead of their first season back in the Premier League, going on to score 17 goals in all competitions.

The following campaign was even better. Not only did the Old Gold finish seventh for the second season in a row, but Jimenez found the back of the net 27 times while chipping in with nine assists. Wolves even reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

Jimenez’s talents in the final third were exceptional, but injuries soon began to plague him. A horrendous skull fracture in November 2020 ruled him out for the rest of the season and he was arguably never the same in the Midlands.

He would go on to score just nine further goals for the club, struggling to recapture his early form at Molineux and was sold to Fulham in the summer of 2023 for just £5.5m.

Jimenez has since scored 18 goals for the London side, with Wolves failing to find a proper heir to his cult hero status.

Wolves have found their next Raul Jimenez

If not the aforementioned Cunha, might Jorgen Strand Larsen be the ideal candidate?

The Norwegian striker joined the club on an initial loan deal last summer, which will be made permanent at the end of the season.

Seven goals and three assists is hardly the most prolific of returns, but three of these goals have come against Chelsea, Man City and Tottenham Hotspur, suggesting he loves playing against a higher-quality opposition.

Hailed by journalist Josh Bunting last August, he outlined qualities, specifically his ability to be in the right place at the right time, that evokes memories of Jimenez: “His movement off the ball really stands out to me,” Bunting noted. “He’s sharp on the ball and gets into the space really well.”

When compared to his positional peers in the Premier League, Larsen ranks in the top 1% for shots on target percentage (63.9%) per 90 and in the top 24% for aerials won (2.27) per 90. For context, Jimenez ranks in the top 21% for aerials won with 2.64, outlining their similar prowess when the ball is off the deck.

The 25-year-old will surely get better the more he plays in the top flight. With Cunha suspended due to his sending-off in the FA Cup clash against the Cherries, Larsen will need to step up over the next few weeks.

If he can score the goals which keep Wolves in the top flight, the supporters might rank him in the same breath as Jimenez.

Leeds now planning talks over signing of £60k-p/w star

Leeds United are planning to open transfer talks over the signing of a Premier League club’s “unplayable” star, according to a recent report.

Leeds United news

The Whites welcome Sunderland to Elland Road in a game that Daniel Farke’s side need to win if they are to return to the top of the Championship table.

Leeds now battling to hijack "gifted" in-demand Juventus target for Farke

He’s a man in demand…

ByTom Cunningham Feb 15, 2025

Ahead of the game against the Black Cats, Farke claimed Leeds are in a healthy position at this stage of the campaign, as they only have two players out injured in Max Wober and Patrick Bamford.

“Touch wood, apart from these two injuries, to have everyone available is quite good and crucial. There are many games to play, and you want to have the players available and in the best possible shape.

“When everyone is ready to go and fit, it’s more or less the best situation you can have as a manager,” Farke said in his pre-match Sunderland press conference.

Leeds United manager DanielFarkeapplauds fans

Away from injury news, there has also been some transfer news regarding the Whites, with it being reported that Leeds are in a battle to sign Koni De Winter from Genoa this summer. The centre-back has impressed in Serie A and has West Ham, Wolves and Juventus all chasing his signature.

Leeds want to sign £60k-p/w player in the summer

De Winter is not the only player on their radar, as according to TEAMtalk, Leeds are looking to open talks with Tottenham Hotspur over the permanent signing of Manor Solomon, who has been labelled “unplayable” by former Whites boss Neil Redfearn.

The report states that a lot of what Leeds want to do in the summer will be based on them winning promotion to the Premier League. The Whites took Solomon on loan in the summer and are keen on keeping him at Elland Road on a permanent basis given the impact he has made this campaign.

Despite Leeds’ desire to keep Solomon at the club long-term, they may have to let Wilfried Gnonto leave in the summer. The winger has been in and out of the starting XI this season, with Farke preferring to opt for Dan James and Solomon, and with Gnonto not happy warming the bench, a move could be on the cards in the summer, even if Leeds are promoted.

The Italian’s contract situation means that Leeds may be in line for a decent windfall in the event of Gnonto’s departure, with the 21-year-old contracted in West Yorkshire until 2028, having only signed a new deal in August.

Solomon, who earns £60,000 a week, has scored seven goals and recorded seven assists in 25 Championship games for Farke’s side. The 25-year-old looks really settled at Leeds, and if promotion is secured, it would make sense for the Whites to keep him on board, as they will want as much attacking quality as they can get in the league above.
