Cricket operations chairman Akram Khan makes claim after Shakib hits out at criticism

He wants to play Tests, from what he has said. In the next couple of days we will discuss about his NOC. If he has interest, he will play Tests in Sri Lanka.   WHAT HAPPENED?

  Following their record-breaking La Liga title win in the 2022-23 season, Barcelona announced that their home stadium Spotify Camp Nou would be undergoing a massive renovation. The Catalan club also announced that they would not return to the stadium in Les Corts until the 2024-25 season and would play at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys in Montjuic, just outside the main city. Delays had hit the stadium last year, and Barcelona had announced their plans to return to the stadium by November end. However, the club has now informed their season ticket holders that the return has been pushed to February.

  The club asserted that a UEFA regulation that forbade teams from switching stadiums during the first round of the Champions League was a significant contributing element. Barcelona will host Atalanta on January 29 in the last round of the new Champions League group stage. Barcelona cited the expense of simultaneously maintaining two locations as justification for delaying their domestic return to Camp Nou.

  In a statement to season ticket holders, Barcelona said: "Due to UEFA regulations preventing a change of stadium in the initial phase of the Champions League and the logistical difficulties and cost of maintaining two large capacity venues operational at the same time, the Club has decided to continue playing its home games at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys until the end of the initial phase of the Champions League.

  "Therefore, the games against Valencia and Alaves in weeks 21 and 22 of La Liga, as well as the game in week eight of the Champions League against Atalanta will be played at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys."

A European club have now reignited their interest in signing a Rangers ace who "no defender likes to play against", according to a new transfer claim.

After the disappointment of drawing 0-0 at Hearts in their opening Scottish Premiership game of the season last weekend, the Gers picked up their first win of the campaign on Saturday afternoon. Philippe Clement's side battled their way to a 2-1 victory at home to Motherwell, with all the goals coming in the first half.

It has been such an exciting summer for Rangers in the transfer market, with so many new faces to bring in, and while ensuring they all gel together is hard, such reinforcements were needed to help close the gap on rivals Celtic. There could even be further additions to come, with fresh rumours continuing to emerge.

Chelsea youngster Leo Castledine is one rumoured target, with the 19-year-old midfielder potentially seen as an alternative option to Manchester United ace Hannibal Mejbri, who has also been touted as a summer signing.

There is also Rangers' possible pursuit of Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland, who could be a gamechanger of a signing in terms of giving Clement a more potent attacking option than he currently has. Queens Park Rangers star Lyndon Dykes has also been linked, and could be a good choice alongside his Scotland teammate.

European club back in for Rangers ace

According to a new report from TuttoMercatoWeb (via Ibrox News), Cagliari are now back in for Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers this summer, reigniting their interest in the process.

They see the 29-year-old as an ideal replacement for Gianluca Lapadula, who could leave in the near future. The Gers have previously slapped a £4.2m price tag on Dessers' shoulders throughout the current transfer window.

It does feel as though Dessers is considered an expendable figure at Ibrox this summer, even though he has started both of his side's Scottish Premiership matches this season, scoring against Motherwell at the weekend and in their Champions League qualifier against Dynamo Kyiv.

However, Rangers' financial situation could be key in terms of whether they have the funds to bring in another striker to replace him.

The fact that the Gers appear to be pushing to get a deal for Shankland or Dykes over the line further suggests that he could be pushed further down the pecking order, even though Clement had said of the Nigerian in the past:

"If you compare him to seven months ago, he does much more for the team. Maybe people have a perception of him, but I know that no defenders like to play against him. He's only growing. That's what we want."

Dessers staying put at Rangers would certainly be no bad thing, with Clement's praise suggesting as much, and his tally of 23 goals in 56 appearances for the Scottish club is impressive. Squad depth is also important, and he would remain a good option off the substitutes' bench if a superior striker comes in, but whether he would be happy with that role remains to be seen.

England’s entire ODI squad has been forced to self-isolate two days before the start of their series against Pakistan following seven positive Covid-19 tests among the team’s players and management.Three players and four members of management returned positive results from a round of PCR testing in Bristol on Monday, after the third ODI against Sri Lanka. “In collaboration with Public Health England, Public Health Wales and Bristol Local Health Authority, those impacted will now observe a period of self-isolation from July 4 following the UK Government’s protocol on quarantine,” an ECB statement said.”The remaining members of the party have been deemed close contacts and will also isolate.”The ECB confirmed that the limited-overs series against Pakistan will go ahead as planned, with Ben Stokes due to return to international duty ahead of schedule and captain the squad, which features nine uncapped players. Almiron joined the Magpies in January 2019 from MLS side Atlanta, and he was relatively unknown at the time, but has since grown into a very important player for the club. However, his time at St. James’ Park could be about to come to an end, as he’s emerged on the radar of an MLS team.

It was reported by Fabrizio Romano that executives of Charlotte FC are in London to start talks over an ambitious move to sign Almiron in this transfer window. It is described as not being an easy deal to do, but an approach has been made to Newcastle. Time is not on Charlotte FC’s side, as the MLS window shuts on Wednesday.

This development regarding Almiron could force Newcastle into the market for a replacement, and if that is the case, a name has emerged as a potential option.

Newcastle offered the chance to sign Rayan Cherki

Newcastle have been on the lookout for a new right-sided forward for most of this summer, even before Almiron started to be linked with a move away from the club. But financial restrictions have meant the Magpies’ business has been limited, and they could be about to be offered a bargain deal.

According to Chronicle Live, one player who could come onto the radar of Newcastle in what remains of this transfer window is Lyon winger Rayan Cherki. Cherki was close to a move to Borussia Dortmund, but talks stalled over a €15 million transfer (£12m), and now, according to The Athletic, the French side are actively looking for new suitors to take up that deal.

The Chronicle's report claims Newcastle is a possible landing spot, with the Magpies' scouting team sure to be doing their due diligence at the very least.
