Son has now been at Spurs for nine seasons and the records keep tumbling. With his goal against Luton Town last Saturday, the South Korean (160) moved up to fifth place in Tottenham’s all-time goalscoring charts, which is a monumental achievement considering that he has not played as a striker in most of those 400 appearances. Kane leads the list with 280, followed by Jimmy Greaves (266), Bobby Smith (208), and Martin Chivers (174).

Reliable reporter says Celtic interest in "exciting" player is true

Brendan Rodgers' return to Celtic has been entirely seamless so far, with the former Leicester City boss taking the Hoops to the top of the Scottish Premiership once more as they look to make it a third title in a row. The champions already sit eight points clear of Old Firm rivals Rangers, though they have played one more game than the Gers. Nonetheless, as things stand, it is Celtic who are on course for a comfortable title win once again in Scotland's top flight.

The January transfer window could yet improve things even further too, especially if Rodgers welcomes one specific defensive target when the winter window swings open.

Celtic transfer news

The biggest Celtic transfer news during the summer was arguably the return of Rodgers and the departure of Jota to Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad. Months later, and only one of those decisions has worked out, and it's not Jota's. Instead, without their former star and with the return of one of their most impressive managers, Celtic have been in flying form all throughout the current campaign. A 6-0 victory over Aberdeen in their final game before the international break summed up their league form fairly well and it's clear that those at Celtic Park are creating an attractive project once again – a project they could add to.

Celtic forward Kyogo Furuhashi.

According to Football Scotland's Mark Hendry, Celtic's interest in Nathaniel Adjei is true and they have sent scouts to check him out ahead of a potential January move. The Hammarby centre-back has also attracted reported interest from Championship side Preston North End and Celtic's rivals, Rangers, as the battle to secure the 21-year-old's signature continues to heat up.

The fact that Adjei would be a long-term investment may reportedly put Rodgers off any deal, but with the chance to beat Rangers both on and off the pitch well within their sights, Celtic could yet make their move.

"Exciting" Adjei is one for the future

As good as Celtic currently are, they would be doing themselves no harm by considering the future under Rodgers. If they can build a squad capable of competing for silverware both now and then once more in the future, then they could repeat previous eras of success by sustaining their dominance in Scotland for years to come. And Adjei could play a large part in that if Celtic decide to pursue his signature.

Still only 21-years-old, the centre-back is already playing an impressive part for Hammarby in the Allsvenskan division, making 16 starts. If he chose Celtic over other potential suitors, Adjei could develop even further by learning from the likes of Cameron Carter-Vickers and Liam Scales – both of whom have contributed to the Hoops' record of just seven goals conceded this season.

Adjei is a player who has earned deserved praise, including from former Hammarby sporting director Jesper Jansson, who told the club's official website after the defender's arrival: "Adjei has had a very good development in HTFF. He is a centre-back with huge potential who looks very exciting for the future, and we have made the decision to buy him from his Ghanaian club."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Hegerberg joined Les Fenottes in 2014 and in the last nine seasons, she has won 23 trophies with the club which include eight Division 1 titles and six Women's Champions League trophies. The Norwegian bagged the prestigious Ballon d'Or in the inaugural season of the award – 2018.

  • WHAT HAS BEEN SAID

The official statement on the club's star player's contract extension read, "Norway and Olympique Lyonnais superstar Ada Hegerberg continues her adventure with the French giants. Hegerberg’s future has dominated the transfer windows over the years, as the saga of a potential move to FC Barcelona kept fans and media busy on numerous occasions. It is now sorted with the 28-year-old forward extending her stay at Lyon until 2027, in a major coup from the French club. Despite the change of ownership and intense courtship from some of the best teams in the world, Hegerberg, the first Ballon d’Or and top goalscorer in UWCL history, has opted for stability. The summer of 2024 will mark her tenth year anniversary with the club.'

After signing the deal, Hegerberg said, "I’m glad we were able to make it happen. The story is yet to end. I firmly believe we have the team to win more trophies in the coming years, and the support we need to keep the team and the club at the highest level possible."

Won't be distracted by election campaign during West Indies ODIs – Mashrafe

Mashrafe said he is pursuing the political opportunity because of his open-ended future after the 2019 World Cup, which he hinted could be his last international tournament

Mohammad Isam04-Dec-2018Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza has said that he will not be distracted by his election campaign in the lead up to, and during the upcoming ODI series against West Indies. After the three ODI series ends on December 14, Mashrafe is scheduled to contest in the Narail-2 constituency elections in his home district, with the polls scheduled to be held on December 30Mashrafe said that he is pursuing the political opportunity considering his open-ended future after the 2019 World Cup which, as he had suggested previously, and also on Tuesday, could be his last international tournament.”My mindset is completely focused on training and the ODI series that’s coming up,” Mashrafe said. I will only concentrate on that [the election campaign] after December 14. If I play till the World Cup, I have about seven or eight months remaining in my playing career. I don’t know what I am going to do in the following four-and-a-half years. The Prime Minister has given me an opportunity to serve the people.”Mashrafe said that he particularly held the press conference a day before the ODI side began training so that it wouldn’t cause a distraction like how it had on the day his nomination was confirmed by the governing party, Bangladesh Awami League.”I don’t want to talk about politics during the ODI series, which is why I held a press conference today. I personally felt that if there are to be questions about my political career, it should be today.”I discussed it with [media manager] Rabeed that I would have to face these questions, so it should be before the series gets underway,” he said.Mashrafe’s fitness had kept him from retiring after the 2017 Champions Trophy, but this time around, he said he would “review” his career path at the end of next year’s World Cup.”My mindset was made up for the World Cup. At one point I didn’t know if I could go further than the Champions Trophy [last year], but fitness kept me going. I will review my decision if I feel differently after the World Cup. My personal goal was to play till the World Cup, which is eight months away. During this time I will be playing within my plan. Whether I will review my decision [to quit after the World Cup] or not, time will tell,” he said.

Important Chelsea chief now really wants to sign star similar to Nkunku

It's been reported this week that an unnamed high-profile Chelsea figure is very keen to back Mauricio Pochettino by signing a £113,000-per-week star.

Chelsea's form this season

The Blues' form this season has been far too inconsistent for a top European side, and especially one which spent nearly £400 million on new signings in the summer transfer window. Just when you thought they were starting to turn a corner with impressive results against the likes of Man City, Spurs and Arsenal since mid-October, those results have been dampened by humbling defeats to Brentford, Man United and especially Newcastle.

Chelsea chiefs considering bringing "exciting" colossus to Stamford Bridge

The Blues could look to add even more youth to their squad.

ByChloe Chadwick Dec 6, 2023

Sitting mid-table with two wins from their last five, Pochettino is focusing more on the long-term project, admitting as much after Chelsea's 2-1 defeat to Man United on Wednesday.

"Football is about to perform and show the reality on the pitch," said Pochettino on Man United to the media.

"We are a project and we are not going to change what we were saying from the beginning of the season. It is difficult. Even with all of the players fit, we knew it would be difficult but when you have half of the squad out and they cannot help to increase the level, it is difficult also. It is difficult to talk because it is unfair.

"That is the reality and we need to improve the player, like we were talking, improve the player that arrive with massive pressure to perform, it is about time. A few days ago we were talking about a fantastic performance, all going well and today because we don't get what we wanted here, we will not change our speech now. We need to be calm, keep going working and for sure try to help the team to improve and be more competitive and consistent when the players we have outside can be with us and be part of the squad."

Chelsea next take on Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday, and it's a game which will be hard to predict going by the Blues' recent form.

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino.

One saving grace for Chelsea could be the looming January transfer market, with reports suggesting chairman Todd Boehly wishes to bring in a striker. One player who's been repeatedly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge is Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

Chelsea chief really wants Osimhen

According to reliable Chelsea journalist Simon Phillips, writing via his substack (as shared by Chelsea Chronicle), a high-ranking board member is personally desperate to sign Osimhen. The official is apparently adamant they need to sign a striker and thinks Napoli's star marksman is the perfect fit, but if they were to move, it's been reported that the Serie A side could demand as much as £120 million.

Victor Osimhen

Price is seemingly by far the biggest issue here, as his wages of £113,000-per-week probably wouldn't be an issue (Salary Sport). Interestingly likened to Chelsea star Christopher Nkunku by Football Transfers, Osimhen has also been called "phenomenal" by Walter Mazzarri.

De Gea has been without a club since leaving Manchester United last summer but has vowed to return in his latest social media update. The Spain international posted a picture showing him in training at what appears to be a non-league ground. The former Spain international also added the caption: "I'll be back."

The former Manchester United star seems to be eager to resume his career after spending almost a whole season out of the game. La Liga side Real Betis have emerged as the latest potential destination for De Gea as they look for a replacement for 41-year-old Claudio Bravo. De Gea has already turned down several opportunities but is believed to be keen to return to Spain.

DID YOU KNOW

De Gea is still the current holder of the Premier League's Golden Glove award after keeping 17 clean sheets for Erik ten Hag's team last season. The former Spain star also won the award in the 2017-18 season.

It remains to be seen if De Gea will be able to return to top level football after essentially taking a year out. The goalkeeper is available as a free agent but is unlikely to come cheap after reportedly being paid £375,000-a-week during his time at Manchester United.

Liverpool could sign "sizzling" Salah heir with move for £30m-rated whiz

After a summer of reconstruction, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp insisted that 'Liverpool 2.0' is being built, with the malfunctioning engine room written and replaced with a wealth of exciting new stars.

And who can argue that the arrivals have not been a success thus far? Dominik Szoboszlai is elegant and energetic; Alexis Mac Allister is dynamic and crisp in an unorthodox No. 6 role; putting an ill-fortuned spell with Bayern Munich behind him, the 21-year-old Ryan Gravenberch looks a bona fide prodigy and is touted for the very top in the years to come.

Wataru Endo, too, has been a solid acquisition, signing from Stuttgart for £16m after Liverpool failed to capture both Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, who both penned long-term deals with Chelsea.

With attacking additions welcomed in the windows preceding the summer, it's understandable that bolstering the backline will take priority over any other business. However, that could change if Mohamed Salah leaves Merseyside next year.

Mohamed Salah's future

In the summer, the Saudi Pro League's ambitious endeavour to rise as a footballing superpower saw a torrent of transfer activity pour into the nation, with many stars across Europe penning lucrative deals with opulent Saudi Arabian outfits.

Salah was – and still is – among the very top targets to bring to the league, and Liverpool's early-season progress threatened to destabilise the bid to return to prominence, with Al-Ittihad believed to have lodged a staggering £150m offer for the Egyptian forward in the late days of August.

jeremie-frimpong-mo-salah-liverpool-opinion

The 31-year-old has undoubtedly been one of the best forwards in the Premier League since signing for Liverpool from Roma in 2017, for £34m, and has now posted 149 goals and 69 assists from 244 matches in the division.

For Liverpool, the money offered was nice, sure, but selling Salah was simply inconceivable at the maiden phase of a crucial campaign that demanded a resurgence.

He's been emphatic this year, proving that selling him was a foolish option, having scored 13 goals and supplied five assists across all competitions already.

But with his contract set for expiry in June 2025, the Liverpool bosses are faced with quite a quandary; should a new deal fail to materialise over the next six months or so, then it's very much feasible that Salah will be sold in the summer.

Liverpool transfer targets – Donyell Malen

According to a report from respected German outlet BILD earlier this week, Liverpool are interested in signing Borussia Dortmund winger Donyell Malen in the event of Salah's departure next summer.

The Dutchman has ebbed and flowed from form in Germany but came alive at the end of the 2022/23 campaign, and is one of Edin Terzic's most dynamic and trustworthy assets.

Priced at €35m (£30m) by Football Transfers' valuation model, Malen is proving to be a prolific figure and still has much scope for improvement, and Klopp could bring his game to the next level by luring him to Anfield.

Donyell Malen's style of play

Noted for his “sizzling” form by journalist Antonio Mango, Malen is a natural dribbling whiz and has a knack for finding the back of the net with his weaving patterns into space, unleashing fusillades of fire on opposition defences.

Considered a player of "extraordinary ability" by former Dortmund boss Marco Rose, Malen completed a move to Dortmund from his native PSV Eindhoven in 2021, arriving as the replacement for Jadon Sancho, who joined Manchester United.

After the transfer, the Yellow Wall's director Michael Zorc stated, "Donyell is a player with great offensive potential, who exudes goal danger, brings his creativity to the table and has a high speed."

The 24-year-old has since chalked up 24 goals and 16 assists from 91 displays, really coming into his own at the end of last season, plundering nine goals and five assists from the final 13 games of the term.

This time around, he has scored four times from nine starts in the Bundesliga, but his expansive style and thorny threat highlight the quality that overpowers mere success from goals and assists.

As per FBref, the versatile forward ranks among the top 1% of attacking midfielders and wingers across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for goals scored, the top 2% for shots taken, the top 14% for successful take-ons and the top 17% for touches in the attacking penalty area per 90.

donyell-malen

He is even listed as a comparable player to Salah, and while he does not boast the ridiculous number of goals and assists that the Egyptian offers with such odd-defying regularity, he could slot right into the system at Anfield.

How Donyell Malen compares to Mohamed Salah

There are certainly similarities that can be pulled from Malen's style in comparison to Salah's, with both forwards adept at cutting inside and striking on goal with clinical efforts.

Salah, much like Malen, ranks among the top 1% of positional peers for goals per 90, though he also ranks among the top 1% for touches in the attacking penalty area and the top 7% for assists per 90.

Lauded for his "frightening" offensive prowess by teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold, Salah is, without a doubt, one of the finest players in Liverpool's history, and to expect a player such as Malen to waltz in and emulate his cutting edge to a tee would be foolish.

However, if Salah does leave next year, then Malen would be able to slot right in and serve as a similar cog in the system; Liverpool's style tilts toward Salah and allows him to flourish, meaning that should Malen arrive then he too could find opportunities aplenty come his way.

Klopp will fiercely fight to keep a hold of his star man's services, but should he leave, efforts must be made to land Malen, nurturing him as the new phenom on the right.
