Leicester City endured a bitterly disappointing 2022/23 campaign as they were relegated from the Premier League and they are now preparing for at least one season in the Championship.
Who have Leicester City signed this summer?
The Foxes have moved swiftly to make four new additions to their squad in order to bring the feel-good factor back to the King Power following the arrival of Enzo Maresca in the dugout.
Harry Winks, Conor Coady, and Mads Hermansen have all been brought in on permanent deals, whilst a defender in Callum Doyle has joined on a season-long loan from top-flight champions Manchester City.
A centre-forward also appears to be on the agenda for the club before the summer transfer window slams shut as they have been linked with Swansea star Joel Piroe.
How much would Joel Piroe cost this summer?
Football Insider recently reported that it would take a fee of at least £15m, and possibly up to £20m, to snap the lethal Dutchman up from the Welsh outfit, amid interest from Leeds United and Southampton.
If Leicester believe that they need a consistent scorer in order to fire them back to the Premier League then that could end up being a bargain price as the 23-year-old ace has proven himself to be a phenomenal striker at Championship level.
He could arrive at the King Power as a big upgrade on current striker Patson Daka for Maresca, based on their respective form over the last two seasons.
The current Foxes forward scored four goals in 30 top-flight appearances last term and that came after he managed five strikes in 23 league outings during his debut campaign in England.
Leicester striker Patson Daka.
This means that the Zambia international has found the back of the net nine times in 53 league matches for Leicester to date, which is one goal every 5.89 outings on average, and the club may not be able to afford to wait for him to find his feet this season as any points dropped could be vital in the race for promotion.
How many goals has Joel Piroe scored for Swansea?
Piroe, on the other hand, is coming off the back of two exceptional seasons with Swansea in the second tier.
During the 2022/23 campaign, the left-footed finisher scored 19 goals in 43 games and averaged a Sofascore rating of 6.99, which would have placed him third within the Foxes squad – albeit at a higher level.
That came after the "prolific" – as he was dubbed by EFL YouTuber Benjamin Bloom – striker plundered an eye-catching 22 goals in 45 league battles throughout the previous season, which was his first year in England.
The Swans marksman, who is a year younger than Daka, has proven himself to be a consistent and reliable scorer at Championship level, so his arrival could provide Maresca's side with a significant boost in their efforts to return to the top-flight at the first time of asking.
Daka is yet to prove himself to be someone who the head coach can lean on to produce goals on a regular basis, whereas Piroe would come in as a striker who could hit the ground running and be the focal point for the Italian head coach's team through the middle.
Therefore, the ex-Manchester City assistant could improve his strike force by winning the race to sign the hotshot before the deadline passes.
Spurs have been making moves to reinforce a number of key areas so far this summer transfer window, with new manager Ange Postecoglou seeing three major first team signings come through the door.
Not counting permanent deals for Dejan Kulusevski and Pedro Porro, the north Londoners have sealed deals for goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, playmaker James Maddison and winger Manor Solomon on a free transfer.
All three have made their debut, having featured against West Ham in a 3-2 pre-season friendly loss recently, but Postecoglou is very excited about Maddison in particular.
“Really excited to get James as part of the group," explained Ange.
"Any manager will tell you that part of the key to being a dominant team is having multiple attacking threats and having a midfielder who can score and create goals. They’re not easy to come by. He’s proven himself at that level in the last few years as somebody who can do that.
“I thought it was a really good fit for us to look for a player like James – even better if we could get James, so we ended up getting James."
As Kane's contract winds down, with just 12 months left before he can leave on a free, chairman Daniel Levy may also have to contemplate sourcing a replacement for the star striker.
Spurs appear to be making contingency plans for if they're forced to sell Kane. They have been linked with a few forwards already, perhaps most notably Flamengo star Pedro and Napoli's Victor Osimhen.
New targets are appearing out of the woodwork on a consistent basis and will continue to do so the longer Kane stalls on a new deal.
Feyenoord's Santiago Gimenez
According to a report by Mexican news outlet Jovenes Futbolistas MX, there is another one, as Tottenham are apparently planning an offer for Feyenoord's star attacker Gimenez.
The 22-year-old enjoyed a fine Dutch top flight campaign, leading to Postecoglou's alleged interest, and if Kane departs, they're set to lodge a bid.
Spurs are plotting to send around £34m to Feyenoord for Gimenez, in the event of Kane's exit, and it is believed they have already held a meeting with the Mexico international's entourage.
Feyenoord, though, would want around £43 million to let their prized asset move to England.
How good is Santiago Gimenez?
The attacker bagged an impressive 15 goals in 32 appearances for Feyenoord in the Eredivisie last season, averaging more attempts at goal per 90 than any of his teammates (WhoScored).
Former Liverpool favourite Dirk Kuyt is a huge admirer of the player, previously hailing Gimenez's lightning speed and quality in the final third.
Kuyt, expanding further, even called the North American the "best striker" in his league right now.
"“He’s back here in the middle of the defenders and he’s really fast," said Kuyt on one of the striker's performances.
"Watching the keeper before he shoots, the rest. In my opinion, he is currently the best striker in the Eredivisie."
While Kane is arguably irreplaceable at Spurs, they could do far worse than Gimenez by the looks of it.
Manchester United are still looking at a potential summer move for Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo, according to Fabrizio Romano.
What’s the latest Man United transfer news?
The Red Devils and Erik ten Hag have been busy ahead of the 2023/24 season where Champions League football will once again be on the Old Trafford billing.
Reinforcements have therefore been required, and the club have already signed Mason Mount from Chelsea and Andre Onana from Inter Milan. Danish forward Rasmus Hojlund will be the next to arrive at Carrington after Man United and Atalanta agreed on a €70m fee, with the player also undergoing a medical and completing media duties.
Hojlund will be the club’s biggest signing of the summer and will take United’s spending to around the £150m mark, however, it doesn’t look as if the Red Devils plan on stopping there.

Attention could turn to moving players on, with 13 thought to be up for sale at the beginning of the window, but another new midfielder appears to be of interest.
Reports have suggested that Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat is a real target and is close to moving to Manchester in a deal worth £26m. A new centre-back could also arrive before the September 1 deadline, with Todibo still an option.
Writing in his Caught Offside column in the last 48 hours, transfer expert Romano said that the Red Devils are still monitoring Todibo ahead of a possible transfer but added that the focus will soon be on a new midfielder.
“I mentioned in April that Man United sent their scouts multiple times to follow both Todibo and Disasi – they’re very attentive to French market.
“Todibo is still being monitored, and we’ll have to wait and see how Man United will act. The priority will be a midfielder for now, so there’s nothing imminent on Todibo.”
Nice central defender Jean-Clair Todibo.
Who is Jean-Clair Todibo?
Todibo is an out-and-out centre-back who appears to be at the top of his game with a career-high €30m Transfermarkt valuation. The 23-year-old progressed through the academy at Toulouse before making the move to Barcelona back in 2019.
However, things didn’t exactly work out at the Nou Camp for the player, who made just five appearances for the Catalan giants, turning out on loan with FC Schalke, Benfica and Nice.
The Frenchman made a move to Nice permanent back in 2021 and has gone on to player over 100 times for the French side – 70 of which have come in the past two Ligue 1 campaigns.
Praised for being as “solid as a rock” for Nice by football talent scout Jacek Kulig, Todibo was also once hailed by German legend Lothar Matthaus, who said:
“Todibo is the best centre back I’ve seen in a long time.
“At 20 he is incredibly calm, he always finds interesting solutions.”
Therefore, a move to Manchester could be a wise one by Ten Hag and the Old Trafford board. Harry Maguire and Eric Bailly could well leave this month, which would leave the club with just Victor Lindelof as a senior back-up to first-choice pair Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.
Todibo could potentially look to rival Varane and Martinez and eventually become a starter over the coming years, and by the looks of things, a move could materialise later in the window.
Stafanie Taylor had figures of 4 for 5 from her four overs•Getty Images
A superb individual performance from Stafanie Taylor gave Western Storm lift-off in the Kia Super League as they defeated Loughborough Lightning by five wickets in front of the Sky TV cameras at Taunton.Taking centre stage ahead of Somerset’s NatWest T20 Blast fixture against Kent, the West Indies allrounder returned startling figures of 4 for 5 in four overs and effected a game-changing run out as Lightning were restricted to 108 for 9 after being put in. Trounced by defending champions Southern Vipers in their opening match, Storm chased down their target with five balls to spare to register their first victory in this season’s domestic women’s T20 competition, Taylor top-scoring with 34.Amy Jones afforded Lightning’s innings early impetus, raising 21 from 12 balls, before chipping Freya Davies to Claire Nicholas at mid-on with the scoreboard on 30. But the visitors still managed to accrue 38 runs from the Powerplay with overseas star Ellyse Perry to the fore. The Australia allrounder clubbed the first six of the match off Jodie Dibble and was moving up through the gears when she attempted a risky single to midwicket and was brilliantly run out by Taylor’s direct hit. Having scored 25 from 28 balls, Lightning’s inspirational opener walked while the third umpire was still studying the TV replay, and Lightning’s chances of posting a challenging total went with her.The leading run-scorer and wicket-taker in the inaugural KSL 12 months ago, the irrepressible Taylor picked up where she left off. She claimed three wickets in five balls in her first over to reduce the Lightning innings to rubble and fundamentally alter the complexion of the match.Propelling offbreaks from the River End, the West Indies allrounder pinned Lightning captain Georgia Elwiss lbw with her second ball to strike a crucial blow for the home side. She then lured Sonia Odedra into a front-foot indiscretion, enabling Rachel Priest to execute a smart stumping, before trapping Thea Brookes in front of the stumps without scoring to reduce Lightning to 59 for 5 at the halfway stage.Any prospects of last season’s beaten semi-finalists recovering were stifled by Taylor, who had Paige Schofield caught behind for 15 in the act of cutting, leaving Marie Kelly and Lucy Higham to attempt a rescue act from the wreckage of 73 for 6 in the 14th over.Determined to prove a point after experiencing a torrid debut at the Ageas Bowl two days earlier, New Zealand pace bowler Holly Huddlestone knocked back Kelly’s off stump to register her first wicket in KSL, while Higham was run out in the penultimate over and England’s Beth Langston holed out to long-on as Storm exerted a vice-like grip.Priest departed for a duck in the first over, skipper Heather Knight was run out for 24 by Higham’s excellent pick up and throw from point and Georgia Hennessey, having scratched 23 from 29 balls, drove Elwiss to Perry at midwicket as Storm struggled to 62 for 3 in the 13th over. When England international Fran Wilson fell in the 16th, that was the cue for the ubiquitous Taylor to break the shackles. She helped herself to five boundaries and played the lead role in a fifth-wicket stand of 30 with Taunton-born Sophie Luff (18 not out) to calm any nerves.

Ottis Gibson is to remain with the England squad throughout the Test series against West Indies. While Gibson, the England bowling coach, is expected to be unveiled as South Africa’s new head coach within days – possibly by the end of this week – he will not start his new role until after the end of the third Test, which starts on September 7.Although Gibson is contracted to the ECB until the end of the 2018 season, it is understood that the ECB and CSA have now agreed a compensation package which allows him to leave early.Gisbon and CSA are still negotiating his own contract details, though it is not anticipated that there will any change of heart from either party at this stage. With Gibson expected to have left the ECB ahead of the limited-overs matches against West Indies – there are five ODIs and a T20I scheduled before the end of September – England may need to appoint an interim bowling coach. In the longer-term, the likes of Richard Johnson (currently with Middlesex) and Graeme Welch (currently with Leicestershire) are front-runners for the role. ESPNcricinfo revealed last week that Darren Gough, who recently worked with England Under-19s, could gain some sort of consultancy role working with the white-ball teams.
Leeds United are determined to keep Italian forward Wilfried Gnonto at Elland Road this summer despite interest from Premier League sides according to Phil Hay.
The 19-year-old was one of the few bright sparks in an overall disappointing campaign for the club last time out.
How much did Gnonto cost?
The Italian was a real bargain buy for Leeds last summer.
The forward moved from Swiss side FC Zurich for a fee of just £3.8m on deadline day, with the club managing to pick up the player for a lot less than the £17m they were initially quoted by Zurich due to the player moving into the final year of his deal.
In his 28 appearances across all competitions for the Whites last season, the Italian international recorded four goals and four assists. He impressed many fans and pundits alike, with Gary Neville full of praise for the youngster after his bright display against Aston Villa in January, stating on Sky Sports: "To see someone so mature, so young is very unusual in that position, sometimes you see potential and talent but watching him so closely, his understanding of where to be, his choice of pass, when to run with it, his awareness of teammates, really good honestly."
The 19-year-old is also a full Italian international despite his young age, having made 11 appearances for the current European Championship holders and registering 3 goal contributions.
Following Leeds' relegation, a number of clubs have registered an interest in Gnonto, with Everton and Villa being two of the clubs reportedly exploring a move. According to The Daily Mail, the Toffees have seen a £15m offer rejected by the Whites, with the club desperate to keep hold of their young star.
Speaking on The Square Ball Podcast, Hay revealed that Leeds have the upper hand in negotiations, as Gnonto's contract doesn't contain a relegation release clause, unlike other stars: "Gnonto is due back this week and they’ve knocked back some interest from Everton in him and seem really intent on keeping Gnonto if they can. The advantage is that he doesn’t have a relegation release clause in his contract unlike just about everybody else in the squad."
Will Gnonto stay at Leeds this summer?
There is a good chance that the Italian will remain at Elland Road for next season.
As Hay stated, Gnonto is one of the Leeds players whose contract doesn't contain a relegation release clause, meaning that all the negotiating power lies in the club's hands, especially since up to this point the youngster hasn't tried to push for a move away from the Yorkshire club so far this window.
Question marks persist about whether a move to Everton is really the step-up the 19-year-old should be making after such a promising season last year, with the Toffees only surviving in the Premier League on the final day of the season. The forward would be in line for regular Premier League football at the Merseyside club due to the club's current striker dillemma, but it could only last a season should Sean Dyche's side fail to survive a relegation battle for the third season running.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.
A potential move that could tempt Gnonto however is a move to current Premier League champions Manchester City, or a move to Premier League runners-up Arsenal. A report from Calciomercarto stated that the two sides were interested in the young forward following a promising opening campaign. Gnonto most likely would be a rotation option for both sides, however, the quality of teammates and staff would be a massive increase for the player and could really push forward his development.
Leeds will be hopeful that the reported interest doesn't amount to anything, and their young star can play a big part in their push for a return to the top flight on English football.
Tottenham Hotspur and Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba is "definitely" one to watch this summer and he looks like their top defensive target, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Who will Tottenham sign?
Spurs and new manager Ange Postecoglou are thought to be targeting multiple senior centre-backs ahead of the 2023/2024 Premier League season.
The new campaign, and Postecoglou's debut one at that, kicks off in around a fortnight but the north Londoners are still yet to confirm the arguably crucial addition of a capable new defender.
Spurs held one of the worst defensive records of any elite side in the top flight last season, conceding a pretty woeful 63 league goals, with no side above 15th in the table leaking more.
It is a glaring issue that Postecoglou and chairman Daniel Levy must address quickly, especially if they are to mix it with some of the division's top sides.
The Lilywhites head coach, speaking to media recently, has also admitted that his side are actively looking at signing a new defender or two this summer.
"That's definitely our intention, absolutely," said Postecoglou.
"We've been working on it for a while and we'll definitely try to get it done as quickly as possible.
"I don't think it's any secret about some of the areas we needed to strengthen. Some of it I identified early on. The goalkeeper was one and central defence is another.
"In terms of the other boys, we've got a big squad but my view is I wanted to bring them along and just work with them, get some clarity in my head and give clarity to them."
Tapsoba, who has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham in recent weeks, is believed to be one of the centre-back candidates – joined by Fulham's Tosin Adarabioyo, Barcelona's Clement Lenglet, Juventus star Gleison Bremer and Wolfsburg's Micky van de Ven – who have all been mentioned at points by the media.
Renowned transfer journalist Romano, speaking to CaughtOffside this week, shared an update on Tottenham's pursuit of Tapsoba in particular.
He says that it is "definitely" one to watch and the Burkina Faso international could well be Spurs' top transfer target in the centre-back position.
"Tottenham are still working on this one, he remains a top target for Spurs in defence," said Romano.
"Still, it’s not an easy deal to get done because Bayer Leverkusen are asking for a big fee but Spurs are still trying to find a way.
“As previously mentioned, Tottenham have also had an interest in Wolfsburg centre-back Micky van de Ven, as they have a strategy of negotiating with a few different players before attacking the target they really want. It seems that Tapsoba is that player but the issue is he’s more expensive than Van de Ven.
"Also with Tapsoba, let’s see if other clubs could join the race for him too – it’ll be one to watch, definitely.”
How good is Edmond Tapsoba?
The 24-year-old played more Bundesliga minutes than any other Leverkusen outfielder last campaign, highlighting his real importance for manager Xabi Alonso.
Tapsoba ranked just behind teammate Jonathan Tah for clearances made per 90 also, making him an enticing option for Spurs and Postecoglou (WhoScored).
Indeed, the Bundesliga website even likened him to former Bayern Munich star Jerome Boateng for his composure in possession and pint-point long range passing.

Leeds United transfer chiefs Nick Hammond and Gretar Steinsson are targeting Liverpool centre-back Nat Phillips this summer, according to journalist Beren Cross.
How old is Nat Phillips?
The 26-year-old has almost become something of a cult hero at Anfield, following an impressive spell during the back-end of the 2020/21 season, when he filled in after a host of injuries to key men and helped the Reds finish third in the Premier League. It led to him being known as the 'Bolton Baresi', in relation to AC Milan's legendary hero Franco Baresi.
On the whole, though, Phillips has had to settle for being nothing more than a fringe player, with Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez all ahead of him in the centre-back pecking order. Last season, for example, he only played 66 minutes of action, starting once and coming on as a substitute on another occasion.
The Englishman is out of contract at Liverpool in the summer of 2025, but given his lack of playing time, it would be a surprise if he was still at the club beyond the end of the current transfer window.
According to Leeds Live's Cross, Phillips is still on Leeds radar ahead of a summer move for the Liverpool man, although he isn't the only target:
"Centre-backs, left-backs, central midfielders, advanced playmakers and centre forwards would be wise bases to target between now and September 1.
"The former are, LeedsLive understands, currently being targeted with the most vigour by Gretar Steinsson and Nick Hammond. Liverpool’s Nat Phillips and Manchester City’s Taylor Harwood-Bellis remain under consideration as two of the options in central defence they like."
Phillips may have ultimately struggled to make the grade at Liverpool, in terms of becoming a genuine key man for an extended period of time, but he could be an excellent signing by Leeds, as they look to return to the Premier League from the Championship as quickly as possible.
Jurgen Klopp once lauded the defender as "absolutely insane" when hailing his performances, which says a lot about the quality he possesses, and he could be a dominant force for the Whites, at a time when they could really do with a leader at the heart of their defence.
Phillips averaged 4.5 aerial duel wins per game across two EFL Cup appearances last season, showing what a monster he is in the air, but he is also arguably underrated on the ball because of his physical stature, having enjoyed an 86.6% pass completion in the Premier League in 2022/23.
At 26, the Liverpool centre-back is at a good age, with his peak years potentially still to come, so he could be a key figure at the back for Leeds for the next four or five years, coming straight in as one of the first name on the team sheet and immediately making the Whites more resolute at the back.
Phillips aforementioned cult status means he could also be a popular player with the supporter, always giving his all and proving to be an excellent team player.
