Rangers must look at signing Lawrence Shankland

Rangers managed to put in a dominant performance against Kilmarnock in their Scottish Cup fifth round replay last night as they secured a 5-0 victory.

The Bluenoses currently find themselves trailing in the race for the Scottish Premiership title, with the Hoops holding an eight point lead having been dominant in recent times.

One player who may be of interest to Rangers is Lawrence Shankland, who has been in sublime form in Scotland in the current campaign having produced an incredible 30 goals and eight assists in 30 games.

Interestingly, the 23-year-old told the BBC’s Off the Ball radio show that he would like a second shot at succeeding at Rangers after spending time at the club as a youngster. So, it would make perfect sense for Steven Gerrard to move in for the forward as his contract is set to expire at the end of the current campaign.

Gerrard has managed to secure a number of impressive signings since taking over as Rangers boss, including the likes of Jermain Defoe, Ryan Kent, Joe Worrall and Scott Arfield. So, many supporters will be eager to see what the 38-year-old’s next move will be, with Jordan Jones already set to rock up at Ibrox at the end of the season.

Indeed, the Rangers boss can pull off another masterstroke by securing the services of Lawrence Shankland on a free transfer as he’s arguably one of the most prolific attackers in Scottish football, and he has pretty much his whole career ahead of him so there’s still plenty of time for him to develop into a star.

What do you think Rangers fans?

Leeds: Trincao for Raphinha deal mooted

Leeds United could be making a huge mistake as a transfer update emerges on Francisco Trincao’s possible move to Elland Road this summer.

What’s the story?

Reports in recent weeks have claimed that Raphinha is someone who Barcelona are keen to land when the transfer window opens, with the Brazilian winger’s agent, Deco, having close ties to those at the Camp Nou.

Now, Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness) have revealed that the Whites would be open to taking a young player in return from the La Liga giants, and that Trincao could be someone who moves in the opposite direction if Raphinha does make the switch.

Orta making a mistake

Given Trincao is on the books at Barcelona, there’s no surprise that a number of people, including his former teammates, have waxed lyrical about his talents, with Ronald Araujo saying: “He is not so fast or intense but I think he has a little more magic.  He was an amazing kid, very skinny. Physically, he was very poor but with the ball he was magic, doing tricks, so skilful.”

And, about the 22-year-old previously, his former teammate at Braga, Abel Ruiz, said: “I would say Trincao looks like Messi, but you can’t compare anyone to Leo. He is the typical left-winger who has a good dribble, someone who’s skilled. If he plays on the right, he goes inside and hits with his left. On the left, he overflows and scores many goals.

“He’s a very good player and I’m sure that he will do very well at Barca. Trincao, honestly, is a very complete player. He’s more than ready to play for Barca. His shot is incredible.”

But, since making the loan switch to Wolves last summer, the Portuguese ace just simply hasn’t delivered the goods on a consistent basis in English football.

Dubbed as being “toothless” by Nathan Judah, the winger has earned a measly average match rating of 6.60 from WhoScored, making him one of the lowest-rated Wolves players to start more than ten league games – indeed, only Leander Dendoncker figures lower than him in that regard.

Trincao appears to be someone who is very much streaky in his displays, capable of pulling off the sublime like he did against Leeds themselves when he scored one and made one, but also going on a run of nine games without a single goal contribution prior to that clash at Molineux.

The £25m-rated trickster may have the natural talent to potentially being an exciting addition to this Leeds team, but his overall performances and lack of consistency in the Premier League make him a very questionable signing for Marsch this summer.

Seeing Leeds swap Trincao for Raphinha would be an almighty backwards step, and it’s a mistake Victor Orta would be very wise to avoid.

Leeds forward Rodrigo linked with exit

Leeds United forward Rodrigo is eyeing up a move to Barcelona in search of more regular playing time, according to a fresh rumour which emerged on Thursday.

The Lowdown: Rodrigo disappoints at Leeds

The 30-year-old arrived at Elland Road in 2020 as the Whites’ most expensive signing all of time, costing £27million from Valencia.

There is no doubt that Rodrigo’s time at Leeds has been disappointing overall, however, with the versatile forward scoring just nine goals in 45 appearances, despite some flashes of his talent.

Still, it would be a big shock to give up on the Spain international so soon, given he is still the club’s most expensive capture and Marcelo Bielsa’s squad is stretched extremely thin due to injuries.

The Latest: Barca eye up move

According to Mundo Deportivo [via Sport Witness], Rodrigo is one of ‘several names’ being ‘offered’ to Barcelona.

It is noted that he is not an ‘undisputed starter at Leeds’ and is ‘looking for a greater role’ at another club, in order to earn more minutes at a key stage in his career ahead of the World Cup this year.

Bielsa has only started Rodrigo 12 times in the league this season.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-news-33/” title=”Latest Leeds United news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: Must wait until the summer

Journalist Phil Hay has described Rodrigo as a ‘class act’ and a ‘huge player’ in the past, so it would be foolish to cash in now with Bielsa’s attacking options already so bare.

The Spain international turns 31 in March however, and there is an argument to say that he is past his best given how much he has struggled to find the back of the net in England, so receiving a fee for him in the summer could be wise if Barcelona are still interested.

It would generate funds for a younger signing, and while there is a risk element in selling a player with such pedigree, he has had long enough to prove himself consistently but has failed to.

Just two goals this season simply isn’t good enough, especially with Patrick Bamford often unavailable – a summer sale could facilitate the arrival of a better replacement going into the 2022/23 campaign.

Spurs: Alasdair Gold shares Lo Celso update

According to reliable Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold, Sevilla are keen on signing Giovani Lo Celso over the coming days.

The Lowdown: Chelsea exclusion

Hailed as ‘magnificent’ by former Spurs boss Jose Mourinho, the Argentine has made just 10 starts in all competitions this season.

Antonio Conte decided to leave him out of the matchday squad against Chelsea on Sunday, with the 25-year-old taking to Instagram to clarify that he was 100% fit for the trip to Stamford Bridge.

It now seems as if Lo Celso could be the latest player to seal an exit from north London before the end of the month, which could leave Conte short of midfield options if reinforcements don’t arrive.

The Latest: Sevilla interested in Lo Celso

Gold took to Twitter on Sunday to share a link to a football.london story. He covered a range of topics, including the future of Lo Celso, who he revealed is wanted by Sevilla.

The journalist said in his tweet: “A piece on Antonio Conte’s Spurs selection calls at Chelsea and the final week of the transfer window, including the decision on Lo Celso who I understand Sevilla are keen to sign, Paratici’s love of Weston McKennie and Traore, plus Ndombele, Dele & more.”

The Verdict: Midfielders needed

Should Lo Celso move to Sevilla and Tanguy Ndombele and Dele Alli also depart following recent rumours, Conte would be left with just Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Oliver Skipp and Harry Winks as central midfield options.

The trio all started in the dramatic 3-2 win over Leicester City last week, so the club will need to bring in reinforcements before Monday’s deadline, possibly exploring swap deals as mentioned.

One midfielder who has reportedly snubbed Spurs is Franck Kessie, and if the club struggles to bring anyone else in, then perhaps it could make sense to keep at least one of the three linked with a late January exit.

West Brom: Crook reveals Bruce development

Alex Crook has revealed a fresh development in West Bromwich Albion’s potential appointment of Steve Bruce.

What’s the talk?

In a recent post on Twitter, the talkSPORT journalist revealed that, alongside the 61-year-old, Alex Bruce and Stephen Clemence also look set to join the Albion coaching staff upon the appointment of the former Newcastle United manager.

In his post, Crook said: “Understand Alex Bruce could be part of dad Steve’s WBA backroom team having recently completed his coaching badges. Stephen Clemence tends to be by his side at most clubs so would anticipate him coming too.”

Fans will be fuming

With Baggies fans appearing extremely unhappy at the prospect of Bruce being appointed as Valerien Ismael’s successor at The Hawthorns, the news that the veteran coach is planning on bringing his son into a coaching role at the club is sure to have left supporters fuming.

Indeed, in two polls ran on Football FanCast in recent days, West Brom fans first proved that they do not think the 61-year-old would be a good choice as the club’s next manager, before revealing in a second poll that the reasoning behind this is due to Bruce’s style of football.

As such, when adding into the mix the likely arrival of Alex Bruce as part of the Baggies’ new first-team coaching staff, there will undoubtedly be questions raised about the former Birmingham City and Aston Villa manager’s reasoning for appointing a completely inexperienced coach to help train a squad that is chasing promotion to the Premier League this season.

Indeed, with Albion fans not best pleased with Bruce’s impending arrival in the first place, the former Manchester United centre-back’s son also making a move to The Hawthorns is not likely to make matters any better for Albion supporters.

Everton transfer news on Tosun

Many Everton fans have been left reacting to some transfer news that has emerged on Cenk Tosun.

As per Sabah, the striker has now reached an agreement with Besiktas to return to them for the third time in the January transfer window, and there are talks between both clubs.

The Turkish side would like a six-month loan deal, and it is now up to the Goodison Park faithful over whether they accept it.

Of course, a permanent deal would be more ideal, given that it has not really worked out for Tosun on Merseyside, with just 11 goals in 59 games in total over all competitions (Transfermarkt).

However, getting even some of his £60,000-per-week wages off of their books would benefit Rafa Benitez’s team, and so it is no surprise to see so many Toffees supporters just wanting him gone.

Nunez could be West Ham’s next Tevez

West Ham United could discover their next Carlos Tevez this January amid interest in Darwin Nunez.

Portuguese newspaper Record mooted the Irons with interest in the Benfica talisman earlier this week (as relayed by Sport Witness), though there is fierce competition for his signature from many of Europe’s elite. The likes of Real Madrid, Manchester City and AC Milan are among the teams listed by the report.

Currently valued at £18m by Transfermarkt, the 22-year-old would be a mighty fine addition to the Hammers, who are on a massive upward trajectory, having made the knockout stages of the Europa League and remain challenging for a place inside the Premier League’s top four.

The six-cap Uruguay international is averaging a goal every 86 minutes across the Eagles’ major competitions this season – that’s 11 goals in 15 appearances, building substantially on last season’s total of 14 goals in 44 games, per Transfermarkt.

Nunez has been compared to the likes of Luis Suarez and Alvaro Morata, a pair of strikers who have had differing success in the English top-flight in the past, whilst the young forward has been dubbed a “complete forward” and a “poacher” by scout Jacek Kulig.

[snack-amp-story url = “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/west-ham-news-transfer-updates-rumours-gossip-david-moyes-gsb-premier-league” title=”Read the latest West Ham news, transfer updates and much, much more!”]

The Hammers have endured some pretty tragic strikers over the years and the need for a new addition to provide the perfect foil to Michail Antonio is paramount this winter.

Given his poaching and evident goalscoring capabilities, West Ham’s head of recruitment Rob Newman could well stumble across their next Carlos Tevez, who joined Upton Park as a relatively unknown star in Europe, having never played outside of Argentina or Brazil at that point.

In some ways, there are similarities to be had with the 6 foot 2 Nunez, who went from Uruguayan giants Penarol to Spanish second-tier outfit Almeria and then to Benfica in 2020, so he has yet to make the step into a major league.

Not only would the east Londoners be getting a quite outstanding solution to their striker search nightmare, but also a potential future star who could go onto big, big things in the game, also being lauded as having “world-class potential.”

The Irons must win the coveted race for Nunez this January.

Everton transfer news on Saint-Maximin

Journalist Paul Brown has now dropped some fresh Everton transfer news involving Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin, claiming a deal for the winger is ‘out of reach’.

The Lowdown: £50m claim

As per The Daily Mail, the Magpies are now willing to listen to offers of around £50m for Saint-Maximin in the summer, as Eddie Howe looks to freshen up his squad ahead of the new season.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/everton-news-4/” title=”Everton news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Goodison Park faithful are reportedly just one of a number of clubs who are interested in his signature, but that is assuming that they manage to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

The Latest: Brown update

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Brown has now claimed that a move for Saint-Maximin to the Merseyside club ‘looks out of reach at the moment’, but admitted that he would have been an ‘ideal’ signing under former manager Rafa Benitez:

“It looks out of reach at the moment. I’ve thought since last summer, when we found out that Rafael Benitez wanted to play quick, counter-attacking football with wingers, that Saint-Maximin was ideal for that kind of role.”

The Verdict: Unlikely

It just seems very unlikely that Saint-Maximin would leave the long-term project at St. James’ Park for a club currently entrenched even further in the relegation dogfight.

He is clearly a key player for the Magpies, having averaged more shots and dribbles per match in the division than any of his teammates, while no Toon player has come close to his six man-of-the-match awards.

Nonetheless, it is very difficult to see the Toffees paying anything close to £50m for the Frenchman anyway, given their financial troubles.

Spurs and PSG ‘in talks’ over Ndombele

Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain are still in talks over a loan move for club-record signing Tanguy Ndombele, and the Lilywhites are considering various options as a direct replacement for the midfielder, according to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Lowdown: Ndombele exiled from Spurs

Spurs manager Antonio Conte has exiled the 25-year-old at N17, leaving the Frenchman out of the matchday squads for their previous two games against Leicester and Chelsea, even forcing him to train alone at Hotspur Way.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/spurs-latest-updates-5/” title=”Spurs latest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Tottenham have been looking to offload the midfielder after a series of disputes and lacklustre performances since his arrival in 2019. PSG are said to have been in talks with the north London club over the possibility of a transfer, with former Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino keen to reunite with the player.

There has even been talks of a swap deal, as Jason Burt of The Telegraph claimed that Tottenham have been ‘offered’ midfielder Leandro Paredes in a straight swap.

The Latest: Romano provides Ndombele update

According to a recent update by Romano, Tottenham and PSG are still in talks over a loan move for Ndombele.

When questioned over the potential transfer, the Ligue 1 club’s boss Pochettino said: “I’m not talking about Ndombele because he’s not in our club. PSG are open to progress, to improve”. According to Romano, the Argentine added: “I think everything is open, one week left”.

The journalist provided a further update on the Ndombele transfer saga, claiming that Tottenham are considering options to replace the Frenchman if the transfer does go through before the end of the month.

Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat is one of many candidates on Spurs’ list, although nothing has been decided or agreed upon as of yet.

The Verdict: Departure seems inevitable

Since asking to leave the club last summer, many Spurs fans may have lost any hope they had of Ndombele regaining the sensational form he showed during his tenure with Lyon. That talent has been seen in flashes during his time in north London, but there has also been criticism of his application.

Romano’s claim that Fabio Paratici is drawing up a list of potential replacements would seem to indicate that the deal with PSG is close to being done, with the former Ligue 1 star is set to return to the division where he made a name for himself.

Letting him go now seems inevitable following his recent omissions and the frosty reception he got from Spurs fans after his strop against Morecambe earlier this month, and it may be best for all parties involved if the 25-year-old calls time on his spell in N17.

In other news: Spurs are hoping to offload one of Ndombele’s team-mates on a swap deal

Richarlison, Townsend & Coleman injured

Lots of Everton fans have been left fuming over some injury news that has emerged.

As per The Times journalist Paul Joyce, Richarlison, Andros Townsend and Seamus Coleman have all now picked up injuries ahead of their game away to Chelsea in the Premier League tomorrow night.

Richarlison has suffered a tear to the muscle in his calf and will be out for a ‘number of weeks’, while Townsend has a small fracture in his foot and will now have to see a specialist.

Coleman has suffered bone bruising and soft tissue damage, meaning that all three players could now be out for a lengthy spell.

On top of the injury to Dominic Cakvert-Lewin, and Abdoulaye Doucoure earlier on in the season, the Goodison Park faithful have been suffering an injury crisis throughout the campaign, and now they could also be without three of their key players for a prolonged period of time.
