O Botafogo tentou reagir no segundo tempo.

Mid West Rhinos survived a middle-order stumble to beat Mountaineers by three wickets, denying the latter a spot in the final of the Pro50 Championship. Mountaineers, who were two points adrift of Mashonaland Eagles, needed a win over Rhinos and a Matabeleland Tuskers’ victory over Eagles to climb into second and a place in the final, but a loss ended their run. Tuskers and Eagles will now clash in the Pro50 final despite the latter’s 74-run loss on Tuesday.Rhinos had Mountaineers under pressure right from the start of the game as their pacers Michael Chinouya and Tendai Chisoro reduced Mountaineers to 83 for 7. From 102 for 8, Mountaineers managed to post 211 only through the 109-run partnership between Innocent Kaia and No. 10 batsman Tapiwa Mufudza. Kaia took on the scoring responsibilities, and brought up his maiden List A hundred, finishing with 101 off 144 deliveries with 12 fours and a six.The foundation for Rhinos’ 212-run chase was set up by the top order, with knocks from Bradley Wadlan (50) and Prince Masvaure leading the way. Three quick strikes by legspinner Natsai M’shangwe saw them stumble from 147 for 2 to 189 for 6 but Masvaure’s unbeaten 68 held the innings together and they achieved the target in the 36th over.Brian Chari’s 125-ball 115 and three wickets each from Brian Vitori and John Nyumbu were the stand-out performances in Tuskers’ 74-run win against Eagles.Chari’s 115, his maiden List A hundred, helped Tuskers post an imposing 279 for 5. Chari’s 137-run second-wicket stand with Nkosana Mpofu (50) set the base for Tuskers’ innings and they were given a boost by Luke Jongwe’s unbeaten 20-ball 37. In reply, Eagles kept losing wickets at regular intervals and had lost half their side by the 32nd over for 132 runs. Nyumbu and Vitori then ran through the rest of the line-up as Eagles’ innings folded for 205 in 43 overs.

Ponte Preta: Ivan, Arnaldo, Renan Fonseca, Reginaldo e Henrique Trevisan; Edson e Lucas Mineiro; Vico, Renato Cajá e Gerson Magrão; Roger. Técnico: Gilson Kleina.

Cuiabá: Victor Souza; Toty, Ednei, Anderson Conceição e Paulinho; Escobar e Marino; Mateus Anderson, Felipe Marques, Rodolfo e Júnior Todinho. Técnico: Itamar Schülle.

Leaning edges advantage Yorkshire's way

A maiden century of high class by Jack Leaning had helped Yorkshire carve out a first-innings lead before three late wickets left Nottinghamshire in a tricky position

Paul Edwards at Trent Bridge21-Apr-2015
ScorecardJack Leaning’s century brought Yorkshire right back into the match•PA Photos

At the start of the third day at Trent Bridge, it seemed that only a batting disaster comparable to Arthur Seaton’s drunken tumble down the steps of the White Horse Club in the opening pages of Alan Sillitoe’s would be sufficient to produce a result. That novel’s Nottingham setting made this curious simile more apt than absurd but it seemed for most of the three sessions that neither side would exhibit the batting frailties likely to give their side the scent of victory.A maiden century of high class by Jack Leaning had helped Yorkshire carve out a paltry first-innings lead of 13, only for the home side’s openers, Steven Mullaney and Brendan Taylor, to wipe out that deficit in predictable comfort. Indeed, Nottinghamshire were 46 for 0 when, for the first time in this game, top order wickets feel in a clump.Rather in the manner they displayed at Worcester a week ago, Andrew Gale’s seamers showed that accuracy and a little movement could earn glorious rewards. Debutant Matthew Fisher struck the first blow when he brought the ball back just enough to have Mullaney lbw for 20. Six overs later, Tim Bresnan, so often a man to inflict crucial damage, moved one away from Alex Hales and the first-innings double-centurion nicked it to Andrew Hodd.Ten minutes later, Brendan Taylor’s loose half-drive proved an inadequate response to a Jack Brooks delivery which came back off the seam. The off stump was plucked out and Brooks careened away in joy. Wednesday’s first session should be worth watching. So might the second. And you might be well advised not to miss the third either. And yet, even when the evening’s drama is taken into account, this sun-dappled Tuesday in Nottingham will be remembered for the batting of 21-year-old Leaning, whose first Championship hundred proclaimed authority and command. That Yorkshire’s makeshift top order did not give Chris Read’s bowlers a hope of victory is explained by the century made by Alex Lees on the second day and by the rather better one scored by Leaning on the third. It might be observed that we did not see a Yorkshire collapse because we were treated to a great deal of Leaning. But, heaven preserve us, a treat it was. Leaning began the day with 3 against his name, and when he was brilliantly stumped by Read off Patel at just after 3.30pm he had added 113 more runs, most of them scored with rare accomplishment and understated style. He had batted for 259 minutes and faced 198 balls, eleven of which he hit to the boundary and one of which he stroked over it.Helped principally by Rich Pyrah, with whom he added 111 for the fifth wicket and the hard-hitting “if it’s up, it’s off” Bresnan, with whom he put on 69 for the seventh, Leaning had taken Yorkshire to within one run off Nottinghamshire’s first-innings tally when he came down the wicket to drive Patel and made his first glaringly conspicuous error. And yes, his innings probably merits another line of gold paint on the honours board of the Yorkshire Cricket Academy, whose graduates seem to be queueing up for first-team opportunities like talented X-Factor contestants or, for an older generation this one, Monty Python’s gasmen. On the evening when Yorkshire officials revealed that Peter Moores is considering a request that Adil Rashid be released from the England’s tour of the West Indies in time for him to play against Warwickshire on Sunday, one was tempted to wonder what Gale’s team might be if the four players currently not needed for Test duty were all available. Who would be dropped? Not Leaning, that’s for certain. Read’s bowlers performed capably and well on the third day but he met them with the broadest of blades and the coolest of heads. Leaning has a presence at the crease which probably cannot be coached. Most people notice the signature shots like his pull through midwicket but it is the certainty and precision of his footwork which enables him to drive, cut and, when the opportunity presents itself, hit sixes over long-on, as he did off Patel. The bowler probably recognised the quality of that shot and went back to his mark. By the end of the innings Patel’s figures of 4 for 102 were a tribute to his persistence and his willingness to do some heavy lifting. Harry Gurney turned up for work too and his three wickets included the first of the day when Gale edged him to slip.Yet this day belonged to Leaning, who learned much of his cricket at York CC. They may have raised a glass to him at the club’s Clifton Park home when they heard the news of his hundred and it was good to hear Leaning himself say how pleasant it was to get his first century at Trent Bridge. For York, like Nottinghamshire on a different plane, is a proper cricket club. And in this spring of national reviews and studious navel-gazing, the truths proclaiming the quality of English game should not be forgotten.

-Confio neste elenco do Flamengo.

Richardson, Thornton set up crushing Australia win

Australia Under-19s’ new-ball pair of Jhye Richardson and Henry Thornton shared three wickets apiece to set up a crushing win against England Under-19s in the second ODI – the 1000th Youth ODI – in Bunbury

ESPNcricinfo staff15-Apr-2015Scorecard Australia Under-19s’ new-ball pair of Jhye Richardson and Henry Thornton shared three wickets apiece to set up a crushing win against England Under-19s in the second ODI – the 1000th Youth ODI – in Bunbury. The win helped Australia level the five-match series 1-1.Opting to bat, England collapsed to 109 in 45.2 overs, with only three players managing double-digit scores. The slide started in the first over when Richardson removed opener Joe Weatherley for 4 and followed it up with two more wickets by his fifth over. England were 29 for 4 at that stage, having lost a wicket to Thornton as well. While Richardson and Thornton had been incisive at the start, Guy Walker and Riley Ayre ensured there was no release. The two bowlers picked up a couple of wickets each, Ayre finishing his spell with miserly figures of 10-4-10-2.For England, Callum Taylor resisted from one end, scoring a patient 50 off 111 balls, but he did not find any support from the other end. But for his two stands of 20 and 26 with Ryan Davies and Jared Warner respectively, England would have struggled to reach 100.Australia had no such hiccups as a 66-run opening stand between Jaron Morgan and Sam Heazlett, in 11.5 overs, set them on the quick road to victory, with Sam Harper and Jake Doran seeing them through in the 26th over.

Massive win helps Mumbai finish second

Combined figures of 5 for 33 from eight overs, bowled by Lasith Malinga and Mitchell McClenaghan, handed Mumbai Indians a place in the IPL playoffs

Combined figures of 5 for 33 from eight overs, bowled by Lasith Malinga and Mitchell McClenaghan, handed Mumbai Indians a place in the IPL playoffs. Mumbai ended in second place in the points table behind Chennai Super Kings, after a rousing nine-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad.Mumbai finished the match with 6.1 overs to spare to complete a great comeback to the season, which began for them with four consecutive defeats. Sunrisers, though, hardly turned up in their own ground despite having a head start when David Warner called correctly at the toss.Warner’s decision to bat first was a straightforward one given the sheen on the pitch, but it all fell apart in seven deliveries. Sunrisers’ best batsmen this season have been Warner and his opening partner Shikhar Dhawan, by a distance.Malinga got the ball to get under Dhawan’s bat in the first over, sending him back for just 1. Next delivery, McClenaghan bounded in and got one to hurry into Warner who was caught nowhere playing the pull. The ball took a leading edge and fountained in the air, only to be gobbled up by Kieron Pollard who was coming in from point.Malinga and McClenaghan gave away just 13 runs in the first four overs they bowled together. Eoin Morgan got a boundary off Vinay Kumar in the fifth over before McClenaghan hurried another to the batsman, this time Morgan top-edging to third man for a simple catch. McClenaghan added the wicket of Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the 17th over to finish with 3 for 16 from his four overs.KL Rahul got a couple of fours, but then it was J Suchith’s turn to stutter the home side further. In the 10th over, he first had Moises Henriques stumped for 11, before removing the out-of-form Naman Ojha for a first-ball duck, the batsman chipping to Rohit Sharma at cover. Rahul fell in the 13th over after he dragged a Harbhajan Singh short delivery on to the stumps for 25. From 61 for 6, there was very little hope remaining for the hosts.Ashish Reddy, who was brought into the side in place of Bipul Sharma, struck the first six of the innings when he clouted Harbhajan over midwicket but he too fell the following over, caught at point. Dale Steyn knocked three fours in his 11-ball unbeaten 19 but it was never going to be enough.Lendl Simmons and Parthiv Patel found three fours each in the first six overs of the small chase. Parthiv was the aggressor among the pair, adding fours quite regularly. Parthiv, though, survived a stumping chance on 34 when his opposite number Ojha couldn’t gather Karn Sharma’s googly in two tries, leaving Parthiv with little to do but plonk his bat back in the crease in time. The legspinner Karn gave 22 runs in his second over, with Simmons cracking two consecutive sixes over midwicket after Parthiv had scored two fours off the second and third deliveries. Karn eventually took the wicket of Simmons, but by then, the batsman had made 48 off 44 balls with four fours and the two sixes, and with the score at 106. Parthiv remained unbeaten on 51 off 37 balls with the help of nine fours, and quite aptly, struck the winning runs in the 14th over.Simmons and Parthiv added their second hundred-plus opening partnership of the season as Mumbai cruised to set up a clash with the table-toppers Super Kings for the first qualifier in Mumbai on May 19.
