-Comemoramos no vestiário, todos felizes, clima é bom.

Leeds United linked to Matheus Cunha

Leeds United have been handed a potentially significant boost in their pursuit of Hertha Berlin forward Matheus Cunha.

What’s the story?

The Whites have been linked with a move for the 22-year-old throughout this summer as Marcelo Bielsa looks to strengthen his first-team squad ahead of the upcoming campaign.

And Leeds may be encouraged to make a formal offer for Cunha following some intriguing comments made by Hertha’s newly-appointed sporting director Fredi Bobic.

“If he wants to move on, it will only happen if the price is right,” Bobic revealed in an interview with BuliNews. “It’s simple: either you commit completely and dig in – or you bring up something else that makes sense.

“I had the feeling that the agent thought that was great. That was a clear statement, he can deal with that. And it’s not like there are 20 clubs lining up right now.”

Bielsa will be buzzing

Although Bobic appeared to be relatively content with how the talks with Cunha’s agent had gone, he refused to rule out an imminent exit and suggested the Brazilian can depart the capital club for the right price.

Previously, reports have claimed Hertha will demand £26 million for their prized asset over the coming months after he enjoyed a stellar 2020/21 campaign.

Despite the continued struggles of the Bundesliga outfit, Cunha bagged eight goals and provided a further eight assists in just 28 appearances last season, catching the eye of several sides.

His standout displays saw former Hertha manager Bruno Labbadia dub the South American wizard as “something special”, and it’s easy to undersand why Bielsa is reportedly keen to bring Cunha to West Yorkshire.

The Samba star’s versatility has seen him play on the left-hand-side, as a number 10 and even up-front, making him an ideal fit for Leeds’ fluid system.

Lining up alongside the likes of Raphinha, Jack Harrison and Patrick Bamford next season would make for a daunting prospect for any Premier League defence, and it’s a forward line that every Leeds fan is surely desperate to see.

And, in other news…Imagine him and Raphinha: Leeds can form dream duo in “phenomenal” EURO 2020 sensation

Aston Villa journalist drops Mings verdict after £60m claim

Aston Villa rate Tyrone Mings very highly and are willing to accept his flaws, journalist Luke Hatfield has told Football FanCast.

This comes after former Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor claimed his old side would not sell Mings for £60m.

The 28-year-old central defender has been such an important figure for manager Dean Smith, making 36 appearances in the Premier League last season.

Mings can be prone to making the odd mistake now and again, something some pundits have been quick to notice and criticise.

Given his playing style, though, it is something Villa accept and they still rate him very highly, according to Hatfield of the Express & Star.

“He does have a little bit of a mistake in him now and then, but I think Villa are willing to accept that, because he is brave on the ball and willing to play out,” the Aston Villa journalist said.

“He is capable of those long passes in behind and I think we’ve seen it, not only for Villa but also for England at times, where he is willing to put that long ball forward. So he does have his flaws it’s fair to say, but he’s still an improving player as well and at centre-back, you’ve got plenty of years left in the tank.

“Villa clearly rate him highly and Dean Smith does see him as one of his favourites.”

£60m would obviously be a lot of money to turn down. But given all of the above, it is not hard to imagine Villa rejecting big bids for the England international.

When you also look at their determination to keep hold of captain Jack Grealish, simply put, the Villans are not coming across as a selling club.

England exemplary as India shoot themselves in the foot

It would be fair to say that cricketers of no country understand the value of a good line more than England

Anand Vasu27-Jul-2002It would be fair to say that cricketers of no country understand the value of a good line more than England. In more ways than one. From Derek Pringle to Angus Fraser, several practitioners of the seemingly dying art of bowling line-and-length medium pace have exchanged their bowling spikes for laptop computers and bylines in leading newspapers. You know they’ll be beaming when they sit down with a good bottle of red at the end of the day and knock out their pieces. With what is the oldest established principal in the game – bowling with discipline, England’s seamers sent India reeling. When the Indians left the Crown Plaza Hotel on the morning of the third day, they would have been worried that the sun that shone down so hard on the second day seemed to be taking a breather, nestling behind a thick fluff of cumulo nimbus. And as you know, some Indian cricketers don’t believe in saving anything for a rainy day. When the sun shone, it was the England batsmen who made merry, piling on the agony, and the runs, in a day that saw them reach 487. When they had a chance to respond in kind, India faltered. After losing Wasim Jaffer early, one would have thought there would be an extended period of consolidation. There was after all, plenty of time left in the game. Virender Sehwag, batting as only he can, slapped the ball to the fence with ease, and again, as only he can, threw it all away just three overs before stumps for 84. In a masterclass programme for Channel 4 in Hampshire, Sachin Tendulkar stressed the importance of playing your natural game. Sehwag’s adulation for Tendulkar is well documented, but one wishes he could have put aside notions of playing his `natural game’ for a few overs as the day wound to a close. He did not, and lost his wicket. Then came that stroke of genius, sending Ashish Nehra in as nightwatchman. With Anil Kumble and supposed all-rounder Ajit Agarkar as possible options, the Indian team in its infinite wisdom sent out a man who does not inspire the slightest bit of confidence. After shouldering arms to a straight one from Andrew Flintoff and being palpably lbw, only for the umpire to deny the appeal, Nehra was on his way after facing just 8 balls. From a fairly handy 128/1 India were 130/3 in the space of a short spell of play that would have infuriated coach John Wright. The first session of the third day, however, would have made the coach proud. The England coach, that is. Duncan Fletcher and Nasser Hussain make the best of whatever team is available to them at the moment – often without the services of Darren Gough and Andy Caddick. The third day of the first Test saw probably the finest display of controlled bowling the cricket world has seen in recent times. Keeping the ball in the right spot with the regularity and accuracy that would have made Glenn McGrath proud, the English seamers made run-scoring difficult. In the course of the first hour of play, just two loose balls were on offer, and both resulted in boundaries, one each to Dravid and Tendulkar. But that was it.And the moment Flintoff got a ball to jump off a length to send Dravid back, the England team were onto something. Then came the worst shot of the day, prompted again by the tactics. After several overs with the leg trap in place, Hussain threw the ball to Craig White at the Nursery End. Bowling a heavy ball, there or thereabouts, just outside off, White pushed one across a bit further. Tendulkar slashed hard, but not hard enough. Alec Stewart snapped up the resultant nick and the man they call the best batsman in the world was gone for 16.Ganguly, not the best player to have coming in when the seamers have established a good rhythm and the ball is doing a bit, played well away from his body to present Michael Vaughan at gully with a catch. When Ganguly, who did not make it to double figures, made his way back to the pavilion, India were 177/6. The Indian batting line-up has again shown how it can crumble in the face of decent bowling. As Neville Cardus once said as a boy in England many years ago, that the perfect scenario was for Victor Trumper to get a hundred in an Australian total of 120 all out. Trumper apart, the tone for the day was set by Tendulkar, who is yet to stand tall at the home of cricket. In this, his, third Test at Lord’s Tendulkar boasts a highest score of just 31.”What Tendulkar can do, we can do worse,” proved the Indian batsmen that followed the little man, perishing to some truly forgettable shots. Indians have always been good at shooting themselves in the foot, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Today was a big day for Indian shooting, with a pair winning the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in a suburb of Manchester. All congratulations to that pair, but it would be better if Indian cricket did not imitate their counterparts with the rifles.

Everton: Benitez keen on Seferovic

Everton have joined the race for SL Benfica striker Haris Seferovic after Rafael Benitez’s seal of approval, according to Portuguese newspaper Correio de Manha (via Sport Witness).

The lowdown

Seferovic was directly involved in 29 goals – 22 goals, seven assists – in just 31 league appearances last season.

According to WhoScored, he excels at finishing, creating chances and winning aerial duels.

The 29-year-old was called up to represent Switzerland at the European Championships and bagged three goals, including a memorable double in the Round of 16 as the Swiss knocked out world champions France.

The latest

Seferovic is an option that ‘pleases’ Benitez, and as such Everton will rival Premier League sides West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers in the race for his signature.

The Blues have been made aware that it will take €25million (£21.6million) to persuade the Primeira Liga outfit to part with him.

Intriguingly, while Sky Sports journalist Pete Graves reported on Monday that Everton want to sign a back-up striker, this report says Seferovic is viewed as a potential replacement for Dominic Calvert-Lewin or Richarlison should they be lured away.

The verdict

Of the two potential departures mooted in the report, Richarlison is probably the more likely. It’s already been suggested that Carlo Ancelotti could look to bring him to Real Madrid.

So then you wonder if Seferovic would be an effective back-up to Calvert-Lewin. Ideally, Benitez should want someone with a different set of attributes, but there’s some definite overlap there with both players serving as effective target men.

Another reason to question the move would be Seferovic’s age, but there’s perhaps little prospect of recruiting a young, up-and-coming forward when Calvert-Lewin is only 24 and seems to have the spot locked down for years. A more experienced deputy may be the logical way to go, but one with the pace and agility to offer a different style to Calvert-Lewin.

In other news, Everton are interested in loaning this star from European giants.
