South Africa not taking it easy

Russell Domingo suggested that there is unlikely to be any experimentation in the South African line-up in their final group game against Zimbabwe

‘We will be having our strongest team’ – Domingo

South Africa are virtually assured of a place in the final of the Zimbabwean tri-series on Saturday, but their coach Russell Domingo suggested that there is unlikely to be any experimentation in the South African line-up in their final group game against Zimbabwe.”It’s an important game, and a couple of the guys have been rested like Dale [Steyn] and Morne [Morkel], who have only played two games in the last three or four weeks, so I don’t think it’s that important for them to rest,” Domingo said. “And I think they will be having a couple of weeks off after this tournament. AB [de Villiers] also had one or two games off, so I think we’ll be pretty much as close to our strongest team tomorrow.”The hosts have just four points to South Africa’s nine, and with a net run rate of -1.665 Zimbabwe would need an improbably large victory on Thursday to even come close to threatening South Africa’s standing on the points table. Of far more concern to South Africa will be their death bowling and their lengthy tail, which will include both Aaron Phangiso and Imran Tahir, with Morkel promoted to No. 9.Both of these factors were exposed in their 62-run defeat to Australia on Tuesday. “We didn’t play as well as we would have hoped to [against Australia],” admitted Domingo. “With the ball at the back end I didn’t think we executed our plans well enough, and then I think our team at the moment with a little bit of a long tail is set up to have wickets in hand. With 15 overs left we were five or six wickets down, which is too many wickets down. Those are the areas that we really got wrong.”Mitchell Marsh played an outstanding innings yesterday. He hit the ball magnificently well and he’s a very difficult guy to bowl to, particularly when you’re defending one short boundary on the on side. He’s got to take a lot of credit, he batted really well, but the Australian batting line-up set the game up for him in those last 10 overs. With the way batting is going at the moment, I think wickets up front is the most important thing, that you can limit the damage at the back end of the innings.”Conditions in Zimbabwe, with pitches generally playing slow and low and aiding spinners, have necessitated South Africa’s inclusion of both Phangiso and Tahir. With both men likely to play in the final, there will be added pressure on South Africa’s middle order to provide the ballast to their innings, whether early wickets fall or not. While Faf du Plessis has scored two centuries in the tri-series, neither Hashim Amla nor Quinton de Kock have really fired and JP Duminy is averaging 25.50 while David Miller has scraped together just three runs in two innings.”Going to the World Cup in Australia it’s probably not going to be such a big thing, playing two spinners, but under these conditions two spinners seems to be a good option,” suggested Domingo. “It does lengthen our tail quite a bit but that just gives our top order a bit more responsibility to perform.”

Kohli a rare talent – Kirsten

Gary Kirsten has said he knew Virat Kohli was destined for success when he worked with the batsman during his tenure as India coach

ESPNcricinfo staff03-Sep-2013Gary Kirsten has said he knew Virat Kohli was destined for success when he worked with the batsman during his tenure as India coach and added that he was fortunate to be a part of Kohli’s development process.”I always had a different kind of feeling when I started working with Virat Kohli,” Kirsten told . “From the beginning, I was very sure that he was a rare talent and would become a great player. He grew massively in these past few years and has matured a lot. I was fortunate to be part of that process of seeing him grow and that give me immense pleasure.”Kohli made his debut in India’s limited-overs squad in 2008 and was part of 54 ODIs during the Kirsten years, scoring five centuries. Since Kirsten’s departure as India coach, following the World Cup win in 2011, Kohli has matured to become the best batsman in the Indian side and has also graduated to the Tests. However, Kirsten was careful not to make any comparisons between Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar.”I have always been very careful about appointing someone in that place (Tendulkar’s replacement). It’s a very dangerous position and very risky to name anyone.”All I can say is that Kohli is a fantastic batsman whom the opposition bowlers are finding difficult to get out. The teams nowadays do a lot of planning to get him out.”Kirsten also had words of praise for Shikhar Dhawan with whom he had limited interaction when Dhawan made his ODI debut in 2010.”Unlike Kohli, I haven’t seen much of Dhawan but what I have gathered over time after some interactions with him is that he has a massive amount of self-belief in his abilities which is very refreshing,” Kirsten said.Kirsten will have another chance to work with Indian talent after he signed up as coach of Delhi Daredevils for the next three years.

Ashraful returns to ODI squad

Injuries to several players have forced the Bangladesh selectors to make four changes to the ODI squad for the tour of Sri Lanka

Mohammad Isam13-Mar-2013Injuries to several players have forced the Bangladesh selectors to make four changes to the ODI squad for the tour of Sri Lanka. Mohammad Ashraful, Nazmul Hossain, Abul Hasan and Mosharraf Hossain have been drafted in to replace the injured trio of Mashrafe Mortaza, Shafiul Islam and Naeem Islam, while Elias Sunny has been dropped.Mortaza and Naeem had not recovered sufficiently from injuries suffered during the Bangladesh Premier League, while Shafiul suffered a side-strain during the pre-tour camp earlier this month. Mortaza took a blow to his heel in the BPL final, sustaining a contusion injury that hampers his landing during delivery stride. Naeem was injured in the second week of February after he stepped on a ball during fielding, but he aggravated the injury by playing a few matches immediately afterwards, according to the Chittagong Kings physio. Shafiul picked up his injury while playing a league match in his hometown in Bogra.Abul and Nazmul were straight swaps for Mortaza and Shafiul. Nazmul has been in and out of the side for the last two years, having last played ODI cricket in the 2012 Asia Cup. He is the more senior of the two returning players; Abul has played just two ODIs. Rubel Hossain is the other pace bowling option in the squad.Mosharraf, a left-arm spinner, has been recalled after five years. His domestic form was impressive in the last two seasons, and he was the Player of the Match in the BPL final. Bangladesh no longer has List-A cricket, so his last performance in one-day format was good too. Mosharraf took 28 wickets for Victoria Sporting Club in the Dhaka Premier League and was the second highest wicket-taker behind Shakib Al Hasan, who is still recuperating from an operation on his leg to reduce the strain on his shin.Bangladesh play the first two ODIs in Hambantota on March 23 and 25 before playing the final game of the series in Pallekele on March 28.ODI squad: Mushfiqur Rahim (captain), Tamim Iqbal, Anamul Haque, Jaharul Islam, Mohammad Ashraful, Mominul Haque, Mahmudullah, Nasir Hossain, Sohag Gazi, Abdur Razzak, Rubel Hossain, Nazmul Hossain, Mosharraf Hossain, Abul Hasan, Ziaur Rahman.

Younis apologises for deserting Pakistan Cup

Younis Khan has called the PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan to apologise for his actions during the Pakistan Cup in Faisalabad

ESPNcricinfo staff25-Apr-2016Younis Khan has called the PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan to apologise for his actions during the Pakistan Cup in Faisalabad. Younis, the captain of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, had been fined 50% of his match fee for breaching level 2 of the PCB domestic code of conduct – his offences reportedly including questioning an umpiring decision, showing dissent and threatening an umpire – during the match against Punjab on Friday. He had refused to show up for his disciplinary hearing, and left for Karachi, his city of residence.”Younis Khan made telephonic contact with chairman PCB Shaharyar Khan today,” the PCB said in a statement. “He felt sorry for the incident that happened during the ongoing Pakistan Cup in Faisalabad. He appraised the Chairman about his willingness to participate in the remainder of the tournament.”Younis and the Pakistan Test captain Misbah-ul-Haq are advisors to Shaharyar on cricketing affairs. In view of this, the statement quoted Younis as saying it was “obligatory on my part to participate in the premier [one-day] domestic tournament for the larger interest of the promotion of the game in the country.”Despite the call, the PCB said the charges leveled against Younis remained in place and the case would be processed accordingly.

Azam, Talat give Zarai Taraqiati Bank last-over win

A flamboyant knock of 77 from 18-year-old Babar Azam and a stable 37 from Hussain Talat helped Zarai Taraqiati Bank chase 156 with two balls to spare against Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited in Karachi

ESPNcricinfo staff14-Jul-2013
ScorecardBabar Azam struck an unbeaten 77 to guide his side to victory•Pakistan Cricket BoardA flamboyant knock of 77 from 18-year-old Babar Azam and a stable 37 from Hussain Talat helped Zarai Taraqiati Bank chase 156 with two balls to spare against Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited in Karachi. Azam and Talat put on 112 for the third wicket in just 13.3 overs after they lost their first two wickets for 44. They needed 94 off the last ten overs and 56 from the last five, and Azam’s six fours and three sixes, along with four boundaries from Talat made the chase possible.Earlier, SNGPL were put in to bat and all their top-order batsmen got starts but couldn’t convert them into big scores as they were 68 for 3 after 10 overs. However, a run-a-ball innings of 41 from Ali Waqas and quick contributions from Khurram Shehzad (20 off 16) and Imran Khalid (26 off 12) ensured they reached a competitive 155 for 6, which eventually did not prove enough.

White, Brown help see off Derbys

Lancashire halted a run of three Royal London One-Day Cup defeats with a thumping 101-run win over Derbyshire with nearly 10 overs to spare.

Press Association07-Aug-2014
ScorecardKarl Brown was one of five half-centurions for Lancashire•Getty ImagesLancashire halted a run of three Royal London One-Day Cup defeats with a thumping 101-run win over Derbyshire with nearly 10 overs to spare.Derbyshire were unbeaten in three matches but a target of 301 proved beyond them and their former paceman Wayne White took 4 for 33 as they were bowled out for 199 with skipper Wayne Madsen top-scoring with 49.Lancashire’s total of 300 for 8, which was their highest against Derbyshire in one-day cricket, was built around half-centuries from Ashwell Prince, Karl Brown, Alex Davies and Steven Croft with Tony Palladino returning his best limited-overs figures of 5 for 49.Derbyshire lost early wickets and when Madsen was fifth out to White with 200 still needed, the game was almost up. To complete a miserable day for Derbyshire, 19-year-old seamer Tom Taylor suffered what appeared to be a serious ankle injury.Lancashire’s innings started slowly with only 49 coming from the first 10 over Powerplay for the loss of Australian Test batsman Usman Khawaja, who made 31 from 28 balls against his former county before Mark Footitt found some late movement and bounce to have him caught behind.Derbyshire suffered a blow when Taylor injured his left ankle two balls into his sixth over and had to be helped off the field and Lancashire gradually increased the tempo with Prince and Brown adding 61 in 15 overs.Prince was bowled for 57 trying to sweep David Wainwright and Brown also failed to go on when he was caught behind for 59 off a bottom-edged pull against Palladino in the 32nd over. Lancashire lost skipper Paul Horton for 19 in Palladino’s next over when he was caught at point off a ball that stopped on him but Alex Davies lifted Footitt over the wicketkeeper’s head for the first six as he and Croft accelerated in the last 10 overs.Croft drove and pulled Wes Durston for successive sixes before Palladino halted the charge by having him caught at deep square leg for 51 from 42 balls and then yorking Davies for 53 with the next delivery.Derbyshire’s chase started badly when the dangerous Durston was lbw playing back to Tom Bailey who struck again by tempting Scott Elstone into a wild drive at a wide ball with only 28 on the board. When Billy Godleman also fell to a reckless cut at Jordan Clark and Marcus North top-edged to backward point trying to pull White, Derbyshire’s hopes rested with Madsen who moved smoothly to 49 from 37 balls. But when he tried to launch White over the deep square leg boundary and only picked out Brown who made no mistake, his exit signalled the end of the home side’s chances and although Alex Hughes straight-drove Simon Kerrigan for six, White completed an efficient display by the visitors with 57 balls still remaining. The victory keeps Lancashire’s chances of making the knockout stages alive and Prince admitted: “We needed a win and it’s nice to get one over on a team that’s in form. We haven’t been batting or bowling particularly well in this competition so to get 300 was good and now we need to keep winning – just like we lost three in a row we maybe now need to win three in a row.”Derbyshire’s first defeat in the tournament was hard to swallow for Palladino who said: “It’s a tough loss to take when we have been playing so well but we weren’t quite at the races today. In my opinion they got 15 to 20 runs too many and if we had been at our best fielding-wise and with the ball we would have restricted them to a lower total.”

England aim to spoil Australia Day

ESPNcricinfo previews the final one-day international between Australia and England at the Adelaide Oval

The Preview by Daniel Brettig25-Jan-2014Match factsJanuary 26, 2014, Adelaide
Start time 1350 (0320GMT)The Big pictureWitnesses to the celebrations that followed the 1987 World Cup Final tell of their delight at watching years of worry and wrinkles disappear from the glowing face of Australia’s captain Allan Border as he was hoisted on the shoulders of Craig McDermott and Dean Jones in the aftermath of victory. While a lone ODI win is nothing by comparison, the effect the Perth result had on England seemed similarly transformative. Certainly Alastair Cook was suddenly speaking a lot more positively about the team, cricket and life itself having finally led his men to a win, albeit over a weakened Australian side. Now, having spent most of the summer toying with England, the hosts have a far chirpier and enthusiastic opponent for the final match of the series at Adelaide Oval, played on Australia Day. They will be fortified by the returns of the captain Michael Clarke and the allrounder Shane Watson, a pair of inclusions that will also add some incentive to England’s quest for a promising end to a wretched tour. Having beaten Australia at the WACA Ground, they would dearly like to repeat the trick against a stronger home line-up in Adelaide, on a pitch that will offer little in the way of pace or lateral movement. For the first time this summer, the Australia must find a way to regain the momentum they had previously ridden across all eight previous encounters, a tidal wave of confidence and accomplishment that was hinted at during the ODIs in England and India but which truly began during the first Test in Brisbane. There was a profligacy about Australia’s bowling in Perth that suggested a slight loss of focus, and it is the most pressing concern for the coach Darren Lehmann ahead of this fixture.Form guide(Completed matches, most recent first)
Australia LWWWL
England WLLLLWatch out forThe only member of Australia’s bowling attack to excel at the WACA Ground, Glenn Maxwell is developing his offspin in a handy and timely manner. But it is his livewire batting that has brought Maxwell most of his career advancement to date, and he continues to wrestle with the competing instincts to attack or build. His overeager dismissal in Perth drew sharp criticism from Lehmann, who made the rare step of deliberately criticising his player in public. Given the array of strokes he possesses, and the power with which he can play them, it will take only the merest hint of better “course management” to have Maxwell frightening the life out of England’s bowlers in Adelaide, and those in the series beyond.Ben Stokes has often been at the centre of what little good cricket England have produced this summer•AFPNot unlike Darren Gough on the 1994-95 Ashes tour, Ben Stokes has been the ebullient centre of what little good cricket England have played this summer. So it was altogether fitting that he dominated the match that finally brought victory for Cook’s team, his improvement in the No. 3 position after a halting first attempt in Sydney proving just as vital as his four wickets. As England’s “find of the tour”, Stokes will keenly want to finish off on a note of foreboding for any Australians thinking of crossing him again in 2015.Team newsMichael Clarke and Shane Watson are back in Australia’s squad for Adelaide, meaning Steve Smith and Daniel Christian are the two men expected to make way. Clint McKay is a likely inclusion in place of Mitchell Johnson, who has stayed home in Perth, while Xavier Doherty can also expect a recall.Australia 1 Aaron Finch, 2 Shaun Marsh, 3 Shane Watson, 4 Michael Clarke (capt), 5 George Bailey, 6 Glenn Maxwell, 7 Matthew Wade (wk), 8 James Faulkner, 9 Clint McKay, 10 Nathan Coulter-Nile, 11 Xavier Doherty.Having finally won an international match on tour, England can be expected to try to maintain their new-found confidence with an unchanged team.England (possible) 1 Alastair Cook (capt), 2 Ian Bell, 3 Ben Stokes, 4 Gary Ballance, 5 Eoin Morgan, 6 Ravi Bopara, 7 Jos Buttler (wk), 8 Tim Bresnan, 9 Stuart Broad, 10 Chris Jordan, 11 James Tredwell.Pitch and conditionsAdelaide’s drop-in pitch should be brimful of runs though it will lack the pace of Perth. The forecast temperature for Australia Day is a dry, dusty 35 degrees.Stats and trivia A victory for England would move the tourists up to third in the ODI rankings behind the other members of the “big three”, India and Australia, surpassing South Africa Australia have hosted England four times in ODIs on Australia Day in Adelaide, winning three times. England were the victors on the most recent occasion however, in 2011.Quotes”He (Maxwell) is a great young kid, and he realises his mistake last night. He owned up to that and he realises he’s got to get better. He’s an all-rounder but he’s batting in the top six, so you’d say he’s a batting all-rounder. But he’s got to show the responsibility of that (role) at six. We know he’s got that excitement and that flair and we love that about him, but we want him to understand the game better.”
“We always took the positive option, which in these conditions I think you have to do. There’s always a bit of risk with that but you have to be good enough as a top-order batsman to make those shots.”

Double centuries for Zol, Samson

A round-up of all the games played in Group C on the third day of the 2013-14 Ranji Trophy season

ESPNcricinfo staff29-Oct-2013
ScorecardVijay Zol hit his second century in three first-class matches•BCCIVijay Zol announced his entry into the Ranji Trophy with an unbeaten double-century that allowed Maharashtra to declare their innings against Tripura and seek a win on the final day in Pune.Zol, who hit a century on his first-class debut in August this year, continued his purple patch, hitting 19 fours and a six during his 324-ball effort. Zol added 199 runs with Harshad Khadiwale, who also scored a century, before putting up stands of 110 and 111 for the next two wickets with Kedar Jadhav and Ankit Bawne respectively. As soon as Zol reached his double-century, Maharashtra captain Rohit Motwani declared the innings. In the remaining 17 overs, Sachin Chaudhari made a dent in Tripura’s second innings, picking up the wicket of KB Pawan early. Tripura still trail by 128 runs and will have to repeat their first-innings performance to prevent a win for the home side.
ScorecardSanju Samson became the second young batsman on the day to hit a maiden double-century which helped his team, Kerala, push past Assam’s first-innings total. Samson hit 23 fours and five sixes in his innings – his third first-class century – and was the eighth wicket to fall after he had ascertained points for first-innings lead for his team.Kerala started the day trailing by more than 200 runs, but Samson added useful stands of 83 and 70 for the fourth and the fifth wickets to take Kerala closer to 300.Assam were also in contention of a first-innings lead when they had Kerala reduced to 298 for 7, but Samson added 59 with Chovvakaran Shahid for the eighth wicket, taking Kerala firmly into the lead.
ScorecardPragyan Ojha and Ashish Reddy shared three wickets each on the third day to trigger an Andhra collapse that resulted in Hyderabad managing a first-innings lead.Andhra were in a comfortable position overnight at 85 for 1, and would have eyed the lead in the morning but Ashish Reddy made the first breakthrough in the seventh over of the morning, dismissing Marripuri Suresh, before Ojha joined in four overs later, introducing a wobble in the Andhra innings. The situation was further worsened when Ojha and Reddy removed three middle-order batsmen, including Amol Muzumdar, within the space of 10 deliveries, turning the innings on its head.Andhra hobbled after that and finished on 185, meaning they had lost nine wickets on the third day with the addition of 100 runs.Hyderabad responded by putting on 96 by the end of the day, stretching the lead to 132, but with only a day remaining, the possibility of an outright result remains low.
ScorecardRishi Dhawan’s seventh five-wicket haul in first-class cricket placed Himachal Pradesh in a strong position to force a result against Goa in the curtailed match in Dharamsala. They need to take 10 Goa wickets on the final day to complete a huge win.Himachal declared the innings on the third morning as soon as Bipul Sharma scored the remaining 14 runs to get to his maiden first-class century, then Dhawan immediately put Goa in a dire situation by picking up two wickets in his first seven balls. Rohan Belekar and Ravikant Shukla resisted with a century stand for the third wicket, but it was Dhawan again who provided Himachal with an opening when he had Belekar trapped in front. The rest of Goa’s batting, apart from a fighting half-century by Shadab Jakati, folded by the end of the day, conceding a mammoth 315-run lead. With 10 overs remaining in the day, Himachal asked the visiting team to follow on, but Goa survived the mini-session without any loss.

Inside Marcus Rashford's incredible car collection – from a sextet of Mercedes to McLaren 765LT

The Manchester United talisman's car collection is indeed one for the sports car aficionados.

Marcus Rashford is arguably the best player to have emerged from Carrington in recent memory as the Manchester United forward is now one of the most-feared Premier League attackers.

The 25-year-old made his first-team debut in 2016, at the age of 18, and has since become one of the mainstays of the United team. He is coming off his career-best season, scoring 30 goals in 56 games in all competitions in 2022-23. This was the first time that Rashford breached the 30-goal mark, thanks to his rejuvenation under new coach Erik ten Hag.

Owing to his performances and his undeniable stature in the team, Rashford penned a new five-year deal with the Red Devils that saw him become the top earner at the club.

For all his on-field exploits, the English superstar has a luxurious collection of cars at his disposal.

GOAL takes a look at which cars Rashford owns.

Audi RS4 Avant | £66,261 / $84,460

Audi RS4 Avant is one of the oldest cars that Rashford drives. This car is a 2016 model which cost Rashford £66,261 / $84,460. This was his first car after he broke into the Man Utd first team. In its B8 iteration, the 4.2-liter FSI V8 engine in the Audi RS4 Avant produced 444 HP and 317 lb-ft of torque. It has a top speed of 250 kmph (155 mph) and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph (0-62 mph) in just 4.7 seconds.

AdvertisementMercedes-AMG G63 | £141,215 / $180,000

Just like many other footballers, Rashford owns a G-Wagon, too – the stunning Mercedes-AMG G63. The 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged engine in the Mercedes-AMG G63 SUV cranks out 577 HP and 627 lb-ft of torque. With a top speed of 240 kmph (149 mph), it has a 0 to 100 kmph (62 mph) acceleration time of under 3.9 seconds. The Lamborghini Urus, Cadillac Escalade V Series, Mercedes-AMG GLS63 AMG, Audi RSQ8, and other high-performance vehicles compete with the AMG G-Wagon. Rashford paid an extra £10,000 for customisation, which takes the total cost of this car to around £150k.

Mercedes-AMG GT63 S | £133,370 / $170,000

The Mercedes-AMG GT63 S successfully balances power and grace. This four-door coupe captivates with its aerodynamic shape and astonishing power from the hand-built V8 engine. Mercedes-AMG A45 Hatchback | £41,121 / $52,415

A 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 410 HP and 369 lb-ft of torque powers this Mercedes. It has a top speed of 435 kmph (270 mph!) and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph (62 mph) in just 3.9 seconds.
